Hey there! My name is Nina and I'm a Canadian artist and illustrator currently living in the UK. I'm sure you're sitting there asking yourself 'lgbt+ moths..what?' so let me start by answering that!
In 2015, I came to terms with my sexuality (ya girl's pan). In 2016 I started tabling at conventions across the UK and meeting people/making friends with other gloriously queer beans. In 2017, I started fleshing out the basis for my comic, which may or may not include moths and many an LGBTQA+ demon/monster girl.
Queer inclusivity and representation is something I'm incredibly passionate about, and something I feel we certainly don't get enough of. Part of the beauty of doing conventions is not only getting to know some of the most wonderful creators, but finding myself under a giant umbrella of like minded LGBTQA+ beans, and feeling like I am valid and belong. Long term this is a feeling I want to keep sharing with the world and I like to think cute, little, fuzzy moths are a good place to start!
It was incredibly hard for me to narrow down which identities would be part of my first campaign, but the decision ultimately came down to the people in my life that I love and admire most.
I'm hoping that together, we can successfully fund this project. I really can't express how much I want these pins to happen, so I hope you'll follow along with me and pave the way to freedom for my fluffy moff cuties.
- Hard enamel
- Gold plated
- Fixed with a rubber clutch
- Packaged with a cute to boot backing card
Phew! Now that the technical specs are out of the way... the moment I know you've been waiting for, the pin designs!
1. Pan moff
2. Demi/Ace moff
3. Trans moff
4. Bi moff
5. Rainbow/pride moff
6. Genderqueer moff
7. Lesbian moff
8. Aromantic moff
9. Non-binary moff
I couldn't think of how to display it but the bodies of each moth will be glittery! The final colours will also vary slightly (curse you RGB to CMYK!!) but I'm in the process of getting the proofs for each of the pins so as soon as I have them, I'll be sure get the images updated!
The rewards are as listed in the pledges, but I drew a nifty little graph to demonstrate ^_^
You'll be able to select which pin designs you want during the backer survey. This will go out roughly a week after the Kickstarter ends.
* For the Light Bringer tier, I've included sample commissions below to demonstrate the sort of bust you'd receive. More examples can be found on my Facebook page so head on over there if you'd like to see more.
**Just to be crystal clear, with this tier you'd be receiving a bust (hip upwards) illustration of 1 character, printed on either A5 or A4 paper. I'm happy to draw most of any character (original or fanart) but please nothing NSFW. If you're unsure about your character choice and whether or not it falls under the NSFW category, please feel free to message me.
At £1400, we've unlocked our first stretch goal!! If this amount or above is maintained until the end of the campaign, each physical backer receives a very special limited edition sticker pack ❤
The stickers will be between 2-3 inches, and you'll get a total of 7 per pack. To make these extra special, one sticker per pack will be a shiny!! It will be coated in either holographic or iridescent glitter vinyl ^_^
^ that's just the mock up for now. I did post another image in an update post, so feel free to have a look there for more details!
Now, I know you're asking 'Nina, are there any more stretch goals??', and my answer is you'll just have to wait and see ^_^ I actually have 2 more in mind, but I don't want to get anyone hopes up so they'll be announced as we go!
- KS Campaign (May 1st-31st)
- Backer survey (week of June 4th)
- Receiving of the funds (calculated between 15th-20th of June)
- Ordering of pins (as soon as funding comes through)
- Arrival of pins (August)
- Shipping of rewards (August)
**Please note that if there's any change to this timeline, all backers will be informed immediately
I've also included an overview of my estimated cost breakdown in case you're curious
Risks and challenges
From previous experiences making merchandise, I want to be realistic about the fact that delays can happen. Naturally I'll be doing everything I can from my end to avoid this at all costs, but if (for example) there was a production error with the pins, you can bet your fuzzy little moth butts I'm not going to send them to my backers! I have a pretty set timeline, so assuming the pins arrive when they should (and as they should), I really can't foresee any issues.
From the day I submit the order, to purchasing packaging supplies, I'll post weekly updates until the day the rewards are shipped out. If the worst should happen and there is a production delay, I will of course let all of my backers know and provide updated delivery times. You're of course more than welcome to drop me a message if you have any additional concerns =)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
