Ash, Ash, Baby!
Everyday Messenger backers, what UP?!
Before we get into it, can we just Ash you something real quick? Have you ever wished the Everyday Messenger came in another color-way? Well friends, that day hath come. Introducing the Everyday Messenger in ASH:
The Ash color-way features the same weatherproof, durable nylon canvas found on our other Everyday Messenger (and bags in general) in a classy heathered light grey. The handles and zipper pulls are finished in a beautiful natural leather. The stitching and interior accents are in rich blue. Ash Everyday Messengers are stocked globally in both 15" and 13" models, and are available for purchase from our website, Amazon, and local retailers near you.
A QUICK UPDATE ON EVERYTHING ELSE
Golly it sure has been awhile. Last time we updated you we were in the closing hours of our Everyday Backpack, Tote and Sling campaign, which topped our EDM campaign in funding to become our biggest Kickstarter yet. We cannot thank our Kickstarter community enough for their continued support.
That said, there's been a whole lotta stuff happening outside of the Kickstarter world that we owe you an update on. So hold on to your boots. Or your pants? Or is it hold on to your chair? Just hold on to something. We got a LOT to share...
OCEAN BEACH CLEANUP THIS WEEKEND
GIVE A SHOT CONNECTS PHOTOGRAPHERS AND NONPROFITS
Earlier this year we launched giveashot.org, a website that connects photographers and videographers with environmental nonprofits in need of visual content. Give A Shot is an effort to give our customers and friends an easy, direct path to use their creative skills to support causes that they're passionate about.
REPEAT CARRYOLOGY TWO-FER
Recently, the experts at Carryology and it's readership of bag/carry enthusiasts bestowed their highest accolade - the Carry Award - upon the Everyday Backpack (Best Active Backpack) and the Everyday Sling (Best Active Messenger). Last year, the Everyday Messenger and Field Pouch won Carry Awards. What'll happen next year? Time will tell.
WE'RE ON A MISSION
This past November the entire team (26 of us now) took a couple days off to step back and think about what, exactly, the whole point of Peak Design is. We harvested the important nuggets from that brainstorm and refined them into what we now call our Mission Statement, and we couldn't be more proud to share it here with our board of directors:
01. MAKE THE BEST THINGS
02. SUCCEED AT THE EXPENSE OF NOBODY
03. TREAT OUR CUSTOMERS AS PEERS
04. OFFSET OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
05. USE OUR VOICE TO INSPIRE POSITIVE CHANGE
06. PRIORITIZE HAPPINESS OVER GROWTH
There's a lot to unravel and unpack in there, and that's why we've created a whole new section of our website dedicated to what our Mission means, and how we're translating it into meaningful action. We highly recommend a poke around, and we'd love to hear what you think about it.
STICKING UP FOR BEARS EARS
In February Peak Design followed in the footsteps of Patagonia and announced our plan to boycott of the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City. The boycott, which grew to include many outdoor brands big and small, was intended to influence Utah's state government to allow the federal protection of 1+ million acres of environmentally and culturally significant land called Bears Ears.
Take note of mission statement number 5: use our voice to inspire positive change. Following 6 very fortunate years of Peak Design's growth, we now have the ears of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide who use our products, follow us on social media, or subscribe to our newsletters and journals. We have a voice, and every year that voice gets a little louder.
We've made it an integral part of our mission to use our voice to speak up for things that we believe are important. We know that not all of our customers/followers will share all of our values, but that's okay. It's also our mission to treat all of our customers like peers. That means that we will foster respectful 2-way communication, especially when discussing hot-button issues that have political implications. We live in a polarizing time right now...that makes it all the more important to speak up for our values and treat others with decency and respect.
Whaddaya think about all this? It's been a long, long time since we last chatted. How are you liking your bags? How do you like the direction that Peak Design is moving in? What would you like to see from us in the future? Let's stay in touch!
Cheers, and as always, thank you for your support!
