Our Mission, and what we're doing about it.

Hey hey!

What's with this sudden spurt of Kickstarter updating? Well, at a highest level you could say that we've spent the winter cleaning up shop, and we want to make sure everybody in this community is aware of the big new developments over here.

Literally, we cleaned up our shop. That's a new conference room. The Peak Design of 2011 would have dry heaved at the idea of having a conference room (feels corporate-y) but now we say don't knock it till you try it.

Many of you subscribe to our newsletter and are up to date on our recent company developments...if so, apologies for repeating ourselves. But with subject matter this near and dear to us, we'd rather err on the side of over-communication. But first, some things and stuffs:

CARRY AWARD NOMINATIONS HATH BEGUN

Carryology is a community and publication dedicated to exploring better ways for people to carry stuff. They've been awfully kind to us over the years, donning their highest accolades to the Everyday Messenger and Field Pouch, citing our new Everyday Bags as "Best In Show" at the 2016 Outdoor Retailer show, and featuring several of our bags at their concept store in Melbourne.

Now, they're doing an open call for nominations for their 2017 Carry Awards, and we'd like to kindly ask for your help. If you've got a sec, please head on over to this page and nominate your favorite Everyday Bags. We won't tell you what to say, but here's how we're placing our own votes:

Carryology Concept Store in Melbourne, Australia. Any Melbournians been by to check it out?

GIVE A SHOT IS BLOWIN' UP...THANK YOU!

Quick update: in less than a week we've connected over 120 photographers and filmmakers with environmental nonprofits in need of content. The response from you and the rest of the world has been incredible. If you haven't given 'er a look-see yet, we highly recommend seeing what all the hub-bub is about at GiveAShot.org.

OUR MISSION

Half of the folks reading this didn't know know who Peak Design was prior to this Kickstarter campaign. A smaller chunk of you have been following our company for a few years, or even since it's inception. No matter what your relationship with our company looks like, we strongly believe that you should know the values we care about and how we're acting on them.

A couple weeks ago we published our new Mission...it's the first time in our 6-year history that we've been able to fully articulate what the heck we're actually doing with this little company of ours. For the full scoop we recommend scrolling through our beautiful Mission page on our website. In any case, here's the quick version of what Peak Design is here to do:

You can click each of those to learn more about what we actually doing to stay true to our words. You can also take a look at our new Taking Action page, where we go into further detail on what we're doing to make Peak Design a sustainable, responsible company that has a positive impact on the world around it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

You—our Kickstarter backers—know us best. This community continues to be the primary place we go to seek feedback, vet ideas, and make sure we're on the right track. Our Mission represents the very core of our being, and so we would love to know how it resonates with you, and what you'd like to see and hear from us moving forward.

As always, thank you for your incredible support.

Really, really fantastic values, guys! My organization went through this exact procedure recently, and we spent two day in Okutama, Tokyo back in January just spending time in nature, escaping the city life, drinking sake, and just thinking and meditating on our values, goals, mission statement, roles, etc. It is a very rewarding time, but it is also extremely exhausting. Hope you all came out of the time together feeling like you are all on the same page!

#3 of our values was huge for me; "Treat our customers as peers". I studied hospitality, and I was even in a special program back in high school (Myrtle Beach, SC USA) that was introducing how to treat customers professionally, with care, and with a big, genuine smile. How you treat your customers is such an important part of your company, because in many ways, it can make you or break you. The fact that you have been quite transparent over these many months and have been asking for our honest feedback shows that you are truly reaching out to us and wanting to better understand and connect with us.

Although I had a sour moment with your company a couple months ago, you have earned my respect and my trust so much through these months of growth. I absolutely love your Everyday Backpack, and I look forward to other products in the future. Good luck with everything!
