About this project
“I'm for Peace!” Are You?
We need your help to produce a documentary that will share our message of peace and hope, and empower young people to reclaim their communities and city from violence.
Perspectives Charter Schools is a network of five South Side schools attended by nearly 2,300 young people in Chicago. Perspectives students focus on the 26 principles of A Disciplined Life®, which help develop positive self-perception, healthy relationships, and tools for productivity. “Showing compassion”, “seeking wisdom” and “solving conflicts peacefully” are just a few principles Perspectives students live by.
We know that violence is a huge problem in many communities throughout the country. In Chicago alone, we've lost more than 500 lives to gun violence in the last year-many of them young like us. A lot of those victims weren't even the intended target. We, the students of Perspectives Charter Schools, are planning to produce an inspiring student-led documentary that chronicles our dedication and commitment to peace. Instead of accepting the violence that surrounds us every day, we have committed ourselves to changing our neighborhoods, lives, and the expectations of what we can accomplish.
We are capturing student testimonials and real life stories about how the streets of Chicago have affected our lives personally and what we can do to make a change. We are planning to incorporate footage from our annual peace march and jam to help convey the idea that living A Disciplined Life® can produce a peaceful environment. Our annual peace march sets the stage for us to reclaim our communities from violence and demonstrate how impactful young people really can be. It's time to tell our story!
We have partnered with New Chapter Entertainment, a video production company founded by two former Oprah Winfrey Show producers. While they have agreed to do the documentary, there is still work to be done and a few costs we have to raise on our own. We’ve estimated these costs to total about $35,000 (production costs, editing costs, music licensing, etc.). Filming has already begun, and with your help we can bring our documentary to fruition and possibly have a hand in saving lives through our peace movement! Your support will allow us to share an incredibly, important game-changing message: every child has the ability to shape and improve the world around them.
It's time to restore peace in Chicago. "Be for Peace" with us. Help us tell our story! Let us show you that the youth of today can change the world and it starts with us.

Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is producing a film that encompasses the views of 2300 students. We want the entire student body to be involved with this production in some fashion. It can be a challenge getting everyone on one accord to produce a seamless and impactful film.
Another challenge would include production delays. We will work with the production team at New Chapter Entertainment to ensure timelines are understood and being met, as to ensure our documentary is completed timely.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
