About this project
Okay, yeah. I’ll say it. I’ll address the big pink elephant in the room:
There are fart jokes here.
Deal with it. But this book is SOOOOO much more than that. Yes, there are fart jokes. I don’t want to make any misunderstanding about that. Because not everyone’s into fart jokes, I get it, sure, sure, but trust me — this book’s got everything —
(OK, start your best Stefon from SNL impersonation… and GO!) —
It’s got superheroes, and badguys who fart really badly, and clowns — evil clowns, who invent robot jack-in-the-boxes that throw poison pies at kids! (note: make big face and gasp!) — And there’s a special farting device that can make your eyes pop open and see like an eagle! And gaseous aliens who reaaallly need a bath, and there’s the Rubber Band Man... you know, that thing that happens when a piano falls on your head, and in the hospital your whole body gets wrapped in bandages, only they get rubberized by a radioactive fart, so you zip out your loose bandages like whips so you can snatch things, and when you do, it makes the sound of a guitar... like a rubber BANDMAN…
Whew. Yeah. OK, end the Stefon bit. See? This is what happens when you work with a 9-yr-old. These are the ideas that go around your head. Eesh.
But really, when it comes down to it — Fartacus really does have everything. All of the above is not in this first book, but it is in the series that we’re planning. Plus a whole lot more.
And at the heart of it all, despite all the fart jokes, superhero action, and good times, this whole Fartacus saga is the story of a boy whose greatest strength is his innocence. And in this weird and frequently bad world, it is one’s innocence that will prove to be the greatest strength of all.
That's the message I’d like to put in the world with Fartacus. My son, though? All he wants to do is give some very sound advice:
We will be self-publishing this first book, and probably all of them as we write them. But we’d like to do more than just print books. We’d like to create a whole transmedia experience — (sorry, I threw in a technical term there. What I meant was…)
We’d like to be able to experience the fantasy world of Fartacus in a bunch of different ways across a bunch of different media. Apps, board games, animated series, cosplay (costume role-playing), and web-based communities geared towards the playful collaboration between parents and their kids.
But first things first – We’ll start with the books. Your funds and support will help us get the ball rolling! So if you like what you see here, we hope you can support our project and our future plans. If you can donate, awesome. And if you want to spread the word, that's awesome, too. :)
OK — all along with this project there has been a great idea that we could never quite get a handle on: we wanted to promote a kid’s creativity, as well as the parent-child collaboration that so many people enjoy — but how could we do that on our own small scale? But then, after we made our video and launched it — it hit us. And the answer is amazingly simple:
Why not also PUBLISH THE WORK OF OTHER KIDS??
There’s no reason to limit this book just to Fartacus, after all. We could invite other parents to submit their kids’ stories as well — and we’ll include all submissions as a collection of stories to be part of our special Kickstarter edition of Fartacus.
What better thrill for a kid than the pride and recognition of seeing their own stories in print, especially if these stories are alongside other kids. I know when I was a young teen, I had a short story published in a student magazine and I still remember that thrill vividly. You can do the same for your kid. And I’d love to help.
And note — These stories do not have to be related to Fartacus, or even superheroes. They can be about anything: Princesses, rainbows, unicorns, monsters, ninjas, pirates, fairies, flying frogs, happy dirt puppets — or anything! The sky’s the limit. We’ll come up with more specific guidelines later — and certainly contact me if you have any questions.
Utmost gracias to Phillip Briggs, our friend Walker and his awesome parents Mandy & Andrew, Kee Heywood, and all the other fine folks and friends who have helped out and given their two cents and support. You complete me.

Oh — and lest I forget –
There's more to this project than just this project. There are other great crowdfunding campaigns as well. And I believe we're all part of a larger community that believes in supporting each other creatively, financially, spiritually and promotionally (is that a word??). Anyway, to that end — here are some links to awesome crowdfunding support services. Check them out!
And there are others, too. Have any links/projects you'd like to share? Let me know. There's room for all of us! :)
Thanks for watching our project, and have fun finding great collaborative campaigns!

Risks and challenges
Pending successful funding, I'm planning to finalize the text by early summer, and put all the bells and whistles on it through mid-late summer. I expect by the end of August, maybe September, everything should be good to go, with printing and the creation of all the other rewards.
Real life does interfere. I do have a job, and I am hoping that won't unduly dig into the things I like to do... such as this project here. Also, I am working with a 9-yr-old. That can be unpredictable.
But we'll do our best for a timely delivery!! Just wanted to keep you updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
