About this project
My name is Benjamin Petry. I live in Seattle. I am 17 years old. About two years ago, my younger brother, Josiah, and I set out to make our fantasy tabletop card game, WarRift, a reality. After testing and playing the game countless times with each other, with gamers at conventions (PAX West and others), with friends, and with family, we believe we have created something truly awesome. Don't just take it from us. We have many testimonials from people who have played WarRift and fair, unpaid reviewers who say our game is a true and unique success.
The game itself is finished, along with all of the wonderful artwork by some of the finest fantasy artists from around the world. The funding we gain from our backers on Kickstarter will be put directly towards the final manufacturing and shipping costs. You can view testimonials, reviews from people who have actually played WarRift, and more below. Thank you for your AMAZING SUPPORT.

Standing on the summit of Mount Dartha, you see the devastation the Eye has brought upon the Kingdom of Shinar. The energy from the Eye that has wrought unimaginable evils is yet the same energy you feel scorching through your veins. This energy is called "rift" and you are a Rifter. Over many years of intense training you have utilized your skills to fit your fighting style. You have become one with the rift, granting you the power to summon creatures of your class to fight by your side.
King Razanax has decreed that whoever performs the greatest feats of valor against the monstrosities of the Eye shall be the kingdom’s new ruler. Many other Rifters have also heeded this call. You must fight together to take back Shinar and fight for yourself to take the throne.
WarRift is a competitive, cooperative deck-building game set in a fantasy world that is extremely player interactive.
The base game supports 2-4 players but two copies will support up to 8 players with teams. The more players the merrier. The average game will take 30-90 minutes to complete. WarRift is intended for gamers 12+, but is certainly not limited to that age, as younger players have enjoyed the challenge.
Players win by getting Valor Points (VP). Players get Valor Points by killing monsters. Based on the dice roll at the start of the rotation, a certain number of monsters come out of the Eye. If there are over 12 monsters in play at the end of the rotation, everyone loses. You want to hinder your opponents a little so they can’t kill monsters and get points. Don’t weaken them too much because you won’t be able to kill all the monsters yourself, which will lose the game for everyone and you'll be hated for life.
WarRift makes good use of trading, teamwork, deception, immersiveness, and most importantly, fun. With all its different features at work, WarRift offers many unique outcomes and ways to play, creating a completely signature experience.
The Rift is one of the main functions that makes WarRift what it is. When a player summons a card from their class deck it goes to the Rift. At the end of the turn, all the cards in the Rift get shuffled and dealt starting with the player who went last. This means you could summon a creature and someone else could get it. However, if a player did not summon a card to the Rift, he does not get dealt any Rift cards that rotation.
If a player plays a card that is not their class type, at the end of the turn that card will go to the card's class owner’s discard pile. Players can always pay additional magicka to have the cards go directly in their discard pile right away. Think of the Rift as a cheap card discount at the cost of a bit of randomness. The Rift makes every game new, somewhat unpredictable, and fun. You and your friends, as long as you can keep them, will enjoy the unique challenges created by the Rift.
WarRift comes with four class builds you can play. Each has its own unique cards.
The Arbiter class uses lots of magicka and controls the flow of the game. With the Arbiter class, you will draw lots of cards and rearrange decks to your advantage. The Grandmaster class summons armies and generals to lead them. You will overwhelm the enemy with sheer numbers. The Necromancer class takes advantage of fallen creatures. Resurrect dead monsters and shred your enemy with brute force. The Werewolf class uses the day & night function to transform into mighty beasts and rule the darkness. You will be weak during the day, so know the best time to play your cards.
Classes were designed to be customizable, which means you will be able to have many more ways to tweak your class builds with future WarRift expansions. A class build must have ten Tier 1 cards, twenty Tier 2 cards, twelve Tier 3 cards, nine Tier 4 cards, six Tier 5 cards, and three Legendary Tier cards. All used cards must be of that class type. If for whatever reason you get bored with one game, just switch to playing a different class and you’ll have a whole new game. With each player having their own unique class and abilities, it makes the game have a greater variety of outcomes and strategies.
The Support deck is another big part of WarRift. The Support deck is a neutral deck that any player can "buy" from. It consists of mercenaries and strongholds. You hire mercenaries by discarding cards from your hand. They come into play instantly. They go to the Support deck discard pile at the end of the turn.
You gain control of strongholds by spending valor points (VP). They come into play instantly, and never leave play. At the end of the game, you get bonus valor points for having the highest accumulated stronghold cost. The Support deck offers tons of immersion by letting you explore and interact with the people and cities of Shinar.
Players can barter/trade with the cards in their hand and strongholds they control. Bartering can be anything from two players just helping each other out, to building a temporary alliance with another player. This keeps the game in a complete political state.
If one player is trying to rush and has the cards to do it, the other players can trade around to get the cards they need to stop them in their tracks. This guarantees a different outcome every game and acts as a nice counterbalance. You may be able to win the game with raw power alone, but can you win it politically?

More Mages of all class types that you can swap into your class build for a greater variety of options. If you want your start game to be more magicka based and less aggressive, this is a great add-on!
Mix up the Eye with more Demons and Dragons, making saving the world a whole lot harder for you and your friends. This goal also includes adding a new mystery legendary monster to the game. Who doesn't want a greater challenge?
After being struck down in battle, the mighty general has been resurrected to once more fight for Shinar. Armundas the Returned can serve his new master, or serve as a general in the imperial army once more.
The destroyer of towns. The ravager of cities. Ezaron is an old, angry dragon who doesn’t have much patience for anything or anyone. You probably don’t want to be friends with this guy.
A living nightmare. This dark gloomy creature is a scar to Shinar. He is able to multiply and vanish in an instant. His victims are usually the poor and the lonely. He slowly terrorizes his victims before finally ending their misery. Will you be able to defeat him and his schemes?
There are five gods worshiped in Shinar. Nevith, the God of Time, is the most powerful of them all. He controls the past, present, and future of Shinar. Mages worship him in hope of possessing a mere fraction of his vast knowledge. He resides outside of a linear timeline and rarely interacts with mortals and their ideals.
We were fortunate enough to get our game to some reviewers prior to Kickstarter. Here's what they thought about WarRift:

Over the course of developing WarRift, we played it with gamers at conventions such as PAX West, ETX, and others. Here's what some of them had to say:
WarRift is manufactured by LongPack Games. They have manufactured countless tabletop games and are very experienced in the business. We chose them because their quality is the finest, they responded quicker than any other manufacturer to our questions, and we have a free hand in the creative process. If you're interested at viewing their craftsmanship firsthand, check out their website at www.longpackgames.com
LongPack partners with the shipping company Send From China (SFC). Our game will be manufactured and shipped from China directly to you - that means it gets to you faster. Developers like us use SFC for worldwide shipping because it eliminates a lot of wait time. SFC is EU-FRIENDLY. For more info on SFC, you can check out their website at www.sendfromchina.com
WarRift ships to the United States, Canada, and the European Union.
In the development of WarRift, we put together a fantastic team of artists from around the world to create the world of Shinar.
If it wasn't for these very talented people, none of this would be possible. We owe them so much credit. You can view their names, contacts, and some of their bios at warrift.com/artists-of-warrift

Risks and challenges
With as much preparing as we've done, the fact that we have never ran a Kickstarter campaign remains true. This will be our first major tabletop game release. We plan to do the best we can possibly do with everything, including any difficulty that comes our way. That's been our philosophy since the beginning.
Attention to detail - from the artwork, to the quality of the final product, we want to ensure that everything is impeccable and those who were excited to back us will not be disappointed - but very pleased. In order to accomplish this, we have networked with other successful Kickstarter game producers (such as the minds behind Ivion and Emergence) who have been generous with their time and advice to help us avoid the first-time mistakes they had. It's not fool-proof, but we have not had to "re-invent the wheel," so to speak, so we could concentrate more on the creative aspects of the game, and in streamlining the process of going from manufacturing to getting the game delivered without delay.
Shipping and manufacturing - all done in one place. We have already received completed quotes from our manufacturer (LongPack) and shipping company (Send From China). Both companies are located in the same city in China. Because of this, we can have the games delivered from LongPack to shipping almost immediately. This means no long tedious waiting as a boat slowly carries all the games to a warehouse overseas. We planned to ship our game quickly and efficiently. We guarantee you will have your game by its delivery date or sooner. Who wants to wait a year until delivery?
We are completely devoted to overcoming this challenge, and will do our best to fully deliver on our promises in the highest quality possible. That is our greatest priority.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
