We have completed a final production mold for the Cubby bowl and it is ready for immediate use in manufacturing.
We have completed an initial design for our second product, the LARGER PawNosh Cubby Deluxe bowl.
The PawNosh Cubby Deluxe bowl will share the same aqua color as the original PawNosh Cubby bowl. It will be taller and have a wider inner bowl capacity for larger appetites and snouts, but it will maintain the same look and feel established by the original PawNosh Cubby bowl.
We will apply all design and production learnings from the original PawNosh Cubby bowl toward the development and production of the larger PawNosh Cubby Deluxe bowl.

Our primary functional consideration for the PawNosh Cubby bowl—and the entire PawNosh product line—was to ensure our pieces would be sturdy fixtures that our customers could use with confidence.
Our drop test below should allay any concerns prospective customers may have regarding the durability of PawNosh bowls.
The walls of PawNosh bowls are 0.5" thick. These protective walls make them extremely durable, and breakage is rare. You should expect minimal—if any—wear and tear.
PawNosh bowls are dishwasher safe and, if treated with reasonable care, should last a lifetime.
Every PawNosh bowl will carry a lifetime warranty against breakage. If your bowl should chip, crack or break, we will gladly replace it at no cost to you.*
*Please note that PawNosh bowls are not microwave safe, and lifetime warranty will be voided if bowl is microwaved. Also, please take care not to subject the bowl to extreme changes in temperature (for example, do not pour ice cold water into a bowl that has just been removed from the dishwasher).
The FDA requires all other food and beverage packaging options to disclose the amount of migrating foreign substances present. It also establishes limits on safe levels of consumption for these substances.
The U.S. pet product industry remains largely unchecked by regulatory entities. As a result, similar limitations for acceptable levels of foreign substance migration in pet food packaging, pet chew toys, and pet food and water bowls have not been measured or established.
It is very difficult—if not impossible—to know what leaching toxins may be present in the items we use for our pets every day.
Using glass pet bowls in your home creates one stopgap you can consciously control.
Glass is 100% recyclable and can be recycled infinitely without loss in quality or purity.
The manufacturer of our bowls has recycled close to 7,000,000 glass containers to date in the production of recycled glass items. In partnership with PawNosh, we aim to grow that number by leaps and bounds.
Manufacturing bowls from 100% recycled glass—as opposed to creating bowls from raw materials—results in a 20–30% reduction in energy usage. Energy is conserved because recycled glass liquifies at a significantly lower temperature than the temperature required to melt and fuse raw materials.
The road to Kickstarter began with research to establish an initial small bowl design based on analyses of current bowls on the market.
We then identified the most efficient process available to implement our design and manufacturing priorities, and sought a U.S. business looking to partner with us toward that end.
We discovered a local business, sourcing local recycled glass, and employing hand-forging artisan techniques. Our partner has been a collaborative force and tested ally throughout our journey.
With our partner and their affiliated experts, we finalized design details, created CAD drawings and poured prototypes.
We recently produced a final cast-iron mold for the PawNosh Cubby bowl. It is ready for immediate use in manufacturing.
We intend to proceed with development and production of the larger PawNosh Cubby Deluxe bowl upon successfully reaching our Kickstarter goal.
PawNosh was co-founded by the husband-and-wife team of Don Takemura and Sachi Ushihara. And a third member, the namesake for the first PawNosh product, pictured here:
Don is PawNosh's business manager, with over 18 years of experience in advertising and marketing. He has been integral to the development of PawNosh's business objectives and priorities, and he manages inventory and expenses.
Sachi is the creator and designer of the product line, with 14 years of experience as a graphic designer. She is also responsible for creating the look and feel of the PawNosh brand.
While our professions give us the tools to effectively design, develop and market our product, our true motivation in this process lies in Member Three: Cubby.
Cubby came to us in March 2012 via the Humane Society in Marin County, CA. We sought an active, inquisitive and connected companion that would integrate quickly and seamlessly into our brood.
We don't think it's possible to engineer a more perfect cat.
As Cubby settled into our home, we sought alternatives to pet bowls on the market that were a) made of questionable materials and b) not very pleasant to look at.
Aligning with our general move away from using plastics in food storage, we changed out most of our 'human' containers to glass, and similarly wanted to use pet bowls made of glass for Cubby.
We could not find any.
We wanted to create a product that had Cubby's health and safety in mind, but it was equally important to create that product in a responsible manner.
And thus was born PawNosh.
As with many domestic manufacturing sectors, the U.S. glass industry has been decimated by the rise of the global economy. Today's international platform allows corporations the ability to easily offshore their design and manufacturing requirements for pennies on the dollar.
We believe manufacturing our product in the United States creates competitive advantages in the following areas:
1. Sustained employment / income for U.S. glassmakers and affiliate U.S. businesses that support glassmaking
2. Transparency in sourcing and testing of materials
3. Control over workmanship and attention to detail
4. Enhanced understanding of the spirit and intent of the designer's
5. Conscious opt-out of practices which enable sub-standard labor compensation and/or labor conditions
6. Conservation of fuel in the transport of resources and product
We knew MSRP would be higher than comparable products on the market when we elected to manufacture our product line in the United States. This increased cost is due to the fact that our bowls are made by hand, utilizing United States labor and materials.
We believe it is important to embrace and protect the benefits of domestic production, even if this decision results in a higher retail price.
We believe that our guiding priorities will also resonate with consumers:
1. To manufacture a healthier alternative for pets that does not currently exist
2. To employ production methods that demonstrate a commitment to ecological, economic, and social responsibility
3. To maintain active control over product quality
PawNosh bowls are forged to last a lifetime, thereby saving money and protecting other resources over the long term.
You may never need to replace your pet's bowls again!

Risks and challenges
We are excited to get manufacturing off the ground as soon as possible, and predict very few bumps in the road after Kickstarter funding closes. Our final mold for the Cubby bowl is complete and ready for immediate production. Our partners are U.S.-based, and barring any unforeseen complications, we do not anticipate delays in sourcing supplies, in transportation or in the distribution of goods. We will make every reasonable effort to exceed current delivery expectations. Regarding the Cubby Deluxe bowl, we intend to proceed with the same level of attentive testing toward its development as we invested in development of the original Cubby bowl.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
