Jetsetter Playing Cards. Printed by USPCC.
A limited edition deck of playing cards inspired by airport signs that we all have driven by one day or another.
The Inspiration. Many of you have driven by signs guiding you to your nearby airports. You know… similar to the one you see below. Those signs have become the inspiration for this deck of playing cards. Ever since I was a little kid, I have loved aviation and going to the airport to watch the airplanes takeoff and land. Those airport signs have become a reminder of how much I still love aviation, watching airplanes, and traveling on airplanes.
The Simplicity. This deck has been consciously designed with a simple approach, just like the airport signs we find directing us. The playing cards will be printed with a custom Ace of Spades, custom Jokers, and Arrco® standard faces allowing the deck to hold the traditional functionality of the cards. This is important. Why? The majority of backers want to see a fully custom deck of playing cards. I know this, but I want to see this deck of playing cards used by those who love traveling like I do along with cardists, collectors, magicians, and the everyday card player. I want people to take this deck with them everywhere. I just always found myself collecting (storing) fully custom decks rather than actually using them.
The First Edition. These will be limited to 2,500 decks, including those decks placed in private reserve, unless they get funded for more than the minimum order accepted by The United States Playing Card Company - the same company that manufactures Bicycle® playing cards.
The Tuck Case. The box containing the playing cards will hold true to the simplistic design while sporting the same color green found on airport signs. The back of the tuck case will display the same design found on the back of the playing cards.
The Card Back. The back of the playing cards will exhibit a two-way back design with the airplanes in diagonal patterns.
The Ace of Spades. The "most famous" Ace in the deck will have “Jetsetter Playing Cards” and an airplane embedded into the center spade.
The Jokers. Each of the Jokers will be renamed Jetsetter. The first Jetsetter (Joker) will have an airplane “flying” up into the top-left corner of the card.
The second Jetsetter (Joker) will have an airplane “flying” up into the top-right corner.
Please note that any of the designs represented above are subject to change during the Kickstarter, after the Kickstarter, and/or before the final submission to The United States Playing Card Company.
The Custom "Anything Is Possible" Bottle. A brand new sealed deck of Jetsetter Playing Cards will be trapped inside an unaltered milk bottle. The deck of playing cards will have gone through the hole at the top of the milk bottle without the bottle being altered in any way. In addition, the playing cards will still be sealed with the cellophane. Handmade in Canada by Jamie D. Grant. This reward is an amazing conversation starter. Only ten (10) of these will be available on Kickstarter.
The Custom Skateboard Deck. Handmade by Adam Kirby, each design will be unique and arrive ready to hang on the wall. This is an extraordinary way to display the Jetsetter Playing Cards and a great addition for any collector. Only five (5) of these will be available on Kickstarter.
The Custom Card Clip. This beautiful handcrafted leather card clip will display the airplane symbol on one side and "Jetsetter Playing Cards" on the other side. These will be handmade by Ryan Edwards of R.E. Hand Crafted and will increase the durability and longevity of your Jetsetter Playing Cards.
The Uncut Sheet. An uncut sheet of Jetsetter Playing Cards, suitable for framing and hanging on the wall. This is a sheet of fifty-six (56) playing cards before they are cut into individual cards and packaged in the tuck case. The tuck case and frame will NOT be included.
The Uncut Tuck. An uncut sheet of the box that contains the Jetsetter Playing Cards, suitable for framing and hanging on the wall. This is a sheet of one (1) tuck case before it is cut and folded into the box that contains the playing cards. The playing cards and frame will NOT be included.
The Brick. A brick is a single package that consists of twelve (12) decks of Jetsetter Playing Cards. The decks will be enclosed in a standard brick box provided by The United States Playing Card Company.
The Stretch Goals. Looking for stretch goals? Once the project reaches or comes within reach of the funding goal, I will provide an update with the potential stretch goals, if any, for various upgrades to the playing cards.
The Add-On Chart. Want more rewards? First, to make things easy, I have created a pledge tier for every combination of decks allowed by Kickstarter. I wanted it to be easy for you and easy for me. Before you add to your pledge for add-ons or additional rewards, please double check the established tiers and see if I already covered what you're looking for. The add-on chart below is essentially for the following tiers:
✈ Thank You
✈ Early Bird
✈ Signed Deck
✈ First Class
✈ Uncut Sheet (Tuck)
✈ Uncut Sheet (Deck)
✈ Custom "Anything Is Possible" Bottle
✈ Custom Skateboard Deck
✈ Custom Card Clip
✈ Cargo Lite
If you would like to add additional rewards, reference the chart below and be sure to message me what you have added to your pledge. If you are an international backer, please use the Int'l Backer Add-On column.
The Shipping. Product fulfillment is expensive, takes valuable time, and requires the right packaging. This is why I have decided to accomplish this myself with the help of great friends and family. I want to make sure it gets done right and at minimal costs. All packaging configurations have already been weighed and estimated for both international and domestic shipping via the United States Postal Service. Whether you pledge for one (1) deck or one (1) brick, your decks will be shipped in a corrugated box. No decks will be shipped in an envelope in order to ensure safe shipping. International shipping is even more expensive than domestic shipping. International shipping has been averaged based on various locations around the world. NOTE: There may be additional custom fees or taxes for international backers when your package arrives, in which I am not responsible for or have any control over. For domestic shipping, the cost is included in your base pledge. For one (1) deck, between $3-$5 of your pledge is the shipping and packaging cost. Plus, do not forget - the more decks you pledge for… the cheaper the cost is for each deck.
The Prototypes. Once the desired back design was choosen, an initial prototype was produced to aid in the fine-tuning of the design and to see the pattern first-hand. Improvements since the prototype? Thinner overall border (white). Green line border to enclose the pattern. Slight pattern adjustments.
Eventually, a second prototype was produced to get an opportunity to see the improvements and the tuck case first-hand. Additionally, the second prototype aided in the photography of the deck of playing cards.
The Social Media. If you would like to access additional behind the scenes content relating to this project, please check out the following:
Content shared will be above and beyond the regular updates provided here on Kickstarter. Look out for some potential surprises too! Lastly... when this deck becomes funded and you receive your rewards, please share your photos and videos using the official hashtag: #JetsetterPlayingCards
Special Thanks. First, I would like to thank Jamie D. Grant, Adam Kirby, and Ryan Edwards for their willingness to create some incredible additional rewards for my Kickstarter. It is an honor to have all three of them be listed on my Kickstarter. Next, I would like to thank Josh Rheault and Mercies for letting me use their song Clouds from The Ballet EP in my Kickstarter video. Last but not least, I would like to thank my friends and family for their unmeasurable support. It does not go unnoticed.
Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter project. I have been pondering, designing, and planning this project for a while now. In addition, I have already gotten the ball rolling with the United States Playing Card Company (USPCC). First, the project needs to be funded. After that, the production phase gets initiated and accomplished by USPCC. They are pretty good at what they do. I'm sure almost every household has a deck of Bicycle® playing cards... the same company that produces those, is producing the Jetsetter Playing Cards.
Once they have been produced, I have already planned out the receiving, packaging, and shipping process of every backers' reward(s) so that they will have their decks, uncut sheets, and additional rewards. I have established a point of contact with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to be sure I have the support, as required. I will primarily be accomplishing this phase of the project late at night and weekends along with the great support from my friends and family. Most importantly, I will be keeping everyone in the loop during the process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
