Ink The Planets - Make 100
When you were a kid, did you ever look up to the stars and dream? Did you hunt for shooting stars, or note your favorite constellations? If you were like me, maybe you laid on the floor with a giant book of planet images, and wondered what they were like, how far away they were, and if we could ever reach them. And if you were like me, those stars then were inspiration to create with childlike wonder.
And they still do,
Last September, I, Kyra Hinton, set out to paint every facet of our Earth from space, for our Ink the Earth campaign. It went incredibly well, and we quickly blew past our 14K stretch goal, which meant I got to paint the planets of our solar system. I was thrilled, and honestly, had so much fun making these. Not only that, but the 234 backers for the project adored them too. And it's no surprise: the stars draw our gaze, the swirling orbits of other planets pique our curiosities and our mind spins in kind - pondering, wondering, and writing unwritten stories. The heavens have captured the mind and hearts of humankind since our eyes first lifted to the skies.
While I was finalizing the planet artworks, I played around with the idea of stacking them, making them feel dimensional. When Kickstarter informed us of their newest prompt, the idea of limited edition posters immediately came to mind. Posters are so relate-able, approachable, touchable, affordable. When I think of posters, I remember the cinematic posters in friends' basements as a kid, up on the walls of classrooms, or hanging on the ceiling above your bed. Just the idea of a poster is nostalgic, and reminds me of childhood.
And maybe that's what all of us need-- a reminder of the childlike wonder the heavens once inspired, and can again. The vast expanse of space, represented in approachable form.

Ink the Earth - Highlights
We wanted to show you the beautiful images that came out of the Ink The Earth Kickstarter we ran a few months ago. Without our wonderful backers, none of this would be possible!
All of these will be available for purchase in our pre-order store from Ink the Earth, linked below:
Having a hard time believing these are paintings?
Here's some proof!
Over the last year I (Paul Hinton) have helped my wife Kyra run these campaigns, and they have blown the lid off of our hopes and dreams for our businesses. Through the "Ink the States" and "Ink the Earth" campaigns, we exceeded our funding goals by over 1500% and shipped to over 20 unique countries around the world. Kyra was able to paint the topography of all 50 United States, Canada, Mexico, the Great Lakes, and an atlas of our world. She then took on painting every facet of our earth from space, and painted all of the planets in our solar system. Over 70 pieces of art were created through the support and encouragement of 400+ backers here on the Kickstarter. As we look toward the future of 2018, a future that is wide open with possibility because of this crowdfunding platform, we are overflowing with thankfulness to this community.
Speaking of community, Andrew Osenga has his newest album on Kickstarter as we speak! He was gracious enough to let us use his music in the background for our project video!

Since our last Kickstarter, I have realized just how much I love to work with my wife. I can't think of a better way to spend my time, than with my family. What makes it 10,000 times better is being able to support Kyra in a way that helps her see how talented she truly is. Kickstarter has been the catalyst to springboard her art business, and show her just how many people love her work.
After seeing how monumental this process was for her, I decided to do all I can to help other artists, like her, grow their business. I know just how challenging life as an artist may be. It requires you to have each hand pulled in opposite directions. You have to handle your business (non-artistic) and at the same time find inspiration and create artwork that your audience will love. That is why I started Sky Development.
I want to be able to help fill the gaps that may be present for a lot of artists. It is hard knowing where to start, and how to get your name out there. Kickstarter can be a wonderful tool for this. Kyra has graciously let me work with her to create these posters to help fund my work. So you won't just be supporting Kyra's art with this campaign. You will help support so many artists, just like her.
Now I don't know how many of you will get this, but I am an ENTP. That means it is at the core of my being to innovate, create, and explore new ideas as often as time allows. So not only do I love working in the art community, but I have a thousand development ideas that I would love to bring the world. One of these ideas is currently in the development/testing phase. Just to give you a hint, it may be something that you can enjoy playing with your friends... but that is all I can say right now! If you would like to keep track of everything I am working on, please check out my website, and follow my profile here on Kickstarter to keep track of all the new projects coming up.
Risks and challenges
This will be the first project where we are incorporating posters into our offering. This will add a new dynamic for our shipping processes. In addition, we are working to streamline this project as to not get overwhelmed. In the past we have incorporated a high level of complexity to the reward options, and this can make us feel a little crazy.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
