About Kickstarter Rewards
About the Story
The Pipers is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, who wrote over 100 short stories and over 40 books — many of which are responsible for films such as Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall and The Man in the High Castle.
About the Creators
We are siblings! We were born 18 months apart in Portland, Oregon to parents who self-published over 20 books — books are in our blood! Paul du Coudray is a designer / artist / illustrator living in Taos, New Mexico. Beth is an author, speaker, and illustrator living in Portland, Oregon. She has illustrated books such as Before They Were Authors, I, Parrot, and The Girl Who Named Pluto.
Mascot is publishing books as a way of creating 'artifacts' and some artifacts deserve to be held. We also recognize that making a book requires resources and the actual impact of consuming resources is exponentially more complicated than just what goes into making a book. As we strive to make all printed works as tree-worthy as possible, we are additionally donating money for at least 1 tree to be planted per printed book.
Kickstarter is the perfect platform to fund the completion and printing of this book, and offers us the ability to produce books for exactly how many people would like to buy them! We already have a print broker lined up, a warehouse in Colorado ready for shipping & fulfillment — so why are we asking for money? We want to know how many books to print for you! One of the most exciting things about this project is that we are done... with the WHOLE book... let's go to print!
We're offering an e-book for international supporters because shipping books outside of the U.S.A. is crazy expensive. We also want to make this book accessible to anyone in the world, and to honor the rights-free status of Philip K. Dick’s story. If for any reason you can’t afford the print version and don’t have a dollar to spare for the digital version, you can direct message Paul on Instagram when the Kickstarter is over and we’ll send you a link for free download.
Do you want to give this as a gift to someone for the holiday or just because? Send the following link, or download the PDF to give to loved ones while they await the book in the mail! Check it out:
When the Kickstarter ends we'll know how many books to print and we'll place an order shortly thereafter! The process of printing takes about 3 months, so you could expect your book(s) sometime in early Spring :-)

Studio Mascot, founded by Paul du Coudray, is growing up to be a group of practitioners who are exploring a variety of themes within multiple mediums.
Mascot Press • A small press devoted to important works. We have several more books planned for 2019.
Mascot Films • We are working on a couple of film projects, ranging from animated films to documentary style.
Mascot Foundry • Our mini-foundry was created in order to share the hand-written fonts that we use in our projects with other artists. Why? Because most of the hand-written fonts out there suck. We hope ours don’t suck and that you enjoy using them.

Risks and challenges
(1) International shipping is expensive and therefore a major challenge is that the bulk of the minimum funding necessary will need to come mostly from people within the U.S.A. (2) Quality control can also be a challenge when printing, but we're using the same print brokers in Colorado that have helped us — and our family — in the past multiple times!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
