About Patasola Press
We're a new independent press in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in January 2011, we aim to promote emerging and established poets and writers. Our primary goal is to represent writers from underrepresented groups, with a special focus on promoting female and ethnic voices. We need your help to get the right start!
We’ve published our first fiction collection, The Indefinite State of Imaginary Morals by Rae Bryant. We are looking forward to a Spanish-English poetry translation book by Mimi Ferebee, a prose-poetry collection, Comatose, by J.A. Tyler, as well as an anthology of female writers across the East Coast. We're also publishing The Dimestore World by T.M. De Vos as part of our Siren Series (female poets) and an anthology of mythology written by members of the Poetry Society of New York. Our Chapbook Contest winner will be announced later this year.
Donating to Patasola Press
We know a lot of people ask for donations. We know there's a lot to consider out there and money isn't easy to come by. We really appreciate that you're donating and we believe that Patasola Press will become a staple in publishing — one that provides a home for new, female and multicultural writers.
What we're doing is something special: we're promising to bring you beautiful new voices. We aren't looking to promote the same names over and over again. We're not looking to be a part of any trend. We want to make sure we're making gorgeous and important books, and we want to make sure we're providing a thoughtful publishing experience for our writers and poets.
1) To be an author-focused press. We love the idea that an author and editor can work together to make something truly beautiful. We want to give the right amount of time to our authors and ensure that the process is thoughtful and creative. We offer our authors and poets a truly intimate publishing process where creativity and ideas can bloom. W
2) To promote diverse voices and content (we publish fiction, collections, poetry, prose-poetry and hybrid genres), with a special focus on voices of female and multicultural poets and writers, which are underrepresented in today's emerging and indie market.
3) To publish new writers and emerging writers. To avoid trends and provide interesting and timeless work. We want to show the world that beautiful literature and poetry still exist and can move the world.
Using Your Donation
We need donations to help with 1) our cover and interior design and 2) with publicity. We're asking for $1,500 — half would be used for promotional reasons: sending galleys to reviewers and paying for advertisements. Half would be used to contract talented cover designers. We don't want to make just any book. We want ours to be spectacular.
This money is important in a lot of ways. We're new, and we are funded out-of-pocket. We'd love to establish a safe financial ground through generous donors in order to build from the bottom up.
