2 player Micro-Card Game
In this asymmetrical naval combat game, one player controls the fearsome Moby Dick and a pod of whales, using hidden movement to elude the opponent, who controls the whaling fleet of Ahab and his crew. The Ahab player wins by slaying Moby Dick. The Moby Dick player wins by sinking the Hunters' ship, the Pequod.
HOW SHE PLAYS
The game takes place in the "real space" area of any flat surface. Movement of ships and whales is fluid and measured out using distance gauge cards.
Players attempt to outmaneuver each other, in the tradition of both nautical and aerial combat games, in an attempt to acquire key tactical strike positions.
Unit attack and defense values are offset. Players must be cautious not to maneuver within striking range of an opponent's unit.
- Limited special tactical cards are available to each side.
- The Hunters have the advantage of "rescuing crew" to reacquire spent tactical cards.
- The Beasts have the advantage of powerful & invisible movement beneath the sea.

There is a good deal of tactical depth to keep you coming back for more. There's big action in this little package.
~Moe's Game Table
I enjoy playing both Captain Ahab and Moby Dick, as there are good strategic differences to both... This is a game I could come back to time and time again, learning or trying something new each time.
The game is a terrific example of an asymmetrical game... Each player faces unique concerns and the struggle between the two makes for some interesting game play.

Leviathan...sets up the feeling of fear, tension and excitement of facing near impossible odds and occasionally triumphing.
COMPONENTS & PRINTING
The components of the game are quite simple. Here's what you'll be getting:
- One deck of 18-cards, "blackjack size" (with rounded corners).
- One foldable "hook box" with rules printed inside.
Printing and fulfillment will be done through the Game Crafter, using their Bulk Order Fulfillment service. This is a service that we've used in the past as customers and with which we've been very satisfied.
ADD-ON BATTLE MAT
We will be working with Mats by Mars to offer a customized 36-square-inch vinyl battle mat to accompany your copy of Leviathan. The battle mat will be custom printed with Andrew's whimsical ocean surface pattern. This is being offered in the "Captain's Share" tier level.
ON STRETCH GOALS
Leviathan is a micro-card game by design and is intended to pack a powerful punch in a small package. It is not meant to have all manner of adornments. Therefore we will remain faithful to our practice of avoiding stretch goals. This allows us to stay focused on the quality of the project and on the projected timeline for delivery.
Our projected timeline for fulfillment is as follows:
- February through March: Kickstarter funding & collection
- April through June: Art completion
- July through August: Production of cards and battle mats
- September through October: Delivery of games and battle mats
Risks and challenges
If you've been following this project all along, then you know that this is our second launching of this design. Originally we embarked on this voyage in the fall of 2017, and even though we had a great response and gained a wonderful fan base, our funding goal was simply too high for a project of this nature.
We have addressed the most important roadblocks in this process and gotten through them. The most challenging aspect of the project from here on out will be the handling and delivery of the battlemats. Due to their size, they cannot be easily packaged for shipping except in large, bulky boxes. They aren't very heavy, but the boxes are awkward in size and shape, and that tends to drive the shipping price up. This is why we are unable to make any promises in regards to overseas destinations, as the shipping cost and low volume would simply be prohibitive. I'm sorry for this, and I hope you understand.
Other than this, we have come back to the project, having re-tooled a few things, but most importantly gone a different direction in the manufacturing process. This has enabled us to bring the funding goal way down to a level that is much more attainable and more in tune with the size of our fan base, while still being able to deliver good quality components.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
