Centuries ago there lived-- "A king!" my little readers will say immediately. "No, children; you are mistaken. Once upon a time there was a piece of wood."
That's the beginning of one of the most famous children's novel in history, written by Carlo Collodi (nom de plume of Carlo Lorenzini, born in Florence, on the 24th of November, 1826) and translated into 240 different languages.
Passione Playing Cards is proud to present to you the debut of Elettra Deganello in the world of playing cards, with a project retracing the story of Pinocchio in both its joyful and dark moments.
The "Pinocchio Family" consists of:
Pinocchio Sapphire deck: 56 cards, printed by USPCC with metallic inks, foiled tuck cases on colored paper by Gambler's Warehouse. All custom faces.
Pinocchio Vermilion deck: 56 cards, printed by USPCC with metallic inks, foiled tuck cases on colored paper by Gambler's Warehouse. All custom faces (100% different from Sapphire)
Collodi's Pinocchio (Special Limited Edition): a unique double deck with the cards of Sapphire and Vermilion stored in a luxury but functional book-like tuck case. This edition is limited to 500 copies and represents a collector's dream.
- Pinocchio's Tales booklet: the perfect companion for the Pinocchio Playing Cards set, expanding the story of the wooden puppet with pages from the novel and wide images.
- Gold "Zecchino" coin: printed in antique gold, represents the gold pieces given by Fire Eater to Pinocchio, for his father Geppetto.
Pinocchio's Pouch: a cotton small drawstring bag to hold your Zecchinos.
All decks will be printed by USPCC with metallic inks both on the back and the front of the cards.
All of the illustrations in the two decks are different. Red suits feature gold ink accents, while black suits silver accents. In Pinocchio Vermilion the red hearts and diamonds are the same shade as an original poker deck, while in Pinocchio Sapphire the typical shading of hearts and diamonds has been replaced with a stunning blue.
The Pinocchio's Tales booklet is unlocked! and will also be available as an add-on. Moreover, now it doubles! For the price of 1 booklet you get two of them.
This work has been endorsed by the National Carlo Collodi Foundation: the Italian institution that officially takes care of the legacy of Pinocchio.
After reaching the main goal, we want to present you the stretch-goals roadmap.

At the culminus of the Pinocchio Playing Cards project soars "Collodi's Pinocchio". Born from the experience gathered with Acheronte in Inferno Playing Cards, this double deck book-like box holds both Sapphire and Vermilion decks in a luxurious, limited, signed and numbered edition.
The two decks are protected two times: first with a wide lid that "closes the book" and then with two individual flaps.
Pinocchio's Tales is now fully unlocked and doubled! Yes, for the price of 1 booklet you get two of them, one for each deck.
You can add other items on top of your pledge! Choose the items you desire in the following table!
The Pinocchio Playing Cards project will be printed by USPCC (makers of the world-renowned Bicycle® playing cards) on Air-Cushion finish.
You may have seen Air-Cushion mentoned as Cambric, Linen, Magic or Embossed, but they are all terms used by USPCC to identify the same finish.
Metallic inks will be used for gold and silver accents
The tuck cases will be printed with pure foil on colored paper by the Gambler's Warehouse.
Passione is a brand of custom playing cards, aimed to bring Italian design and Italian culture into the world of custom playing cards, to promote the culture of custom playing cards and to be a reference for the cardistry movement in Italy.
Born in the town of Saptrap, Elettra is raised by the Fairy with Turquoise Hair in her house in the woods.
After years and years of unremitting study, her hair starts turning blue... So she decides to play some cockaigne in the famous Land of Toys.
Getting tired of her boyfriend, the megalomaniac Ringmaster, she organizes a meeting with Fire-Eater on the Island of the Busy Bees to design a deck of playing cards about the super star of his show: Pinocchio.
The adventures of Elettra in the Land of Playing Cards will be numerous and exciting, but one thing is sure: you, my dear backers, are going to play a role in this fairy tale.
We owe special thanks to the National Carlo Collodi Foundation, for granting us its patronage on Pinocchio Playing Cards.
The National Carlo Collodi Foundation is a non-profit organisation. Since 1962 it has promoted children’s culture and culture for children starting from the worldwide literary masterpiece the Adventures of Pinocchio. Thanks to its artistic and human values, and above all its beloved main character, Pinocchio, this work is a tremendously effective tool for nurturing awareness in children and adults of a variety of topics and for arousing enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards quality educational and recreational proposals. The Collodi Foundation was established by the Committee for a Monument to Pinocchio, chaired by Professor Rolando Anzilotti, who designed the original portion of Pinocchio Park: Pinocchio and the Fairy by Emilio Greco and the Little Mosaic Square by Venturino Venturi, set within a landscaped area designed by Renato Baldi and Lionello De Luigi. The Committee also launched other cultural initiatives, later inherited and continued by the Collodi Foundation: the collection of Collodi editions, the study of the life and works of Carlo Lorenzini/Collodi, book writing and illustration contests for children, and competitions for schools. Risks and challenges
Every project has its own risks. We are not new in designing playing cards, but incidents and delays can always happen. We are relying on USPCC, the world leader in Playing Cards manifacturing, for the cards themselves, and on Gambler's Warehouse for the special tuck cases, the assembling and the fulfilling. We are in good hands.
The artwork of the decks is also 100% finished, so.. we tried our best to minimize the risks, however if anything happens, you can expect an open and prompt communication.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
