The Enchanted Forest follows the adventures of a girl growing up in an Irish Village. The story begins with the villagers preparing for their annual winter ceili (party). As the ceili progresses, this girl becomes bored and sneaks into the forest, where she sees the fairies having a ceili of their own. The fairies are captured by an evil conjurer, and it is up to the village girl to rescue them with the help of her friends.
The money raised through Kickstarter will be used to finance this original ballet. It will go towards costumes, sets, props, programs, tickets, theater rental, etc - all of the things that go into a ballet production. The more money we raise, the more spectacular the sets and costumes can be!
While there are a lot of ballets in existence, many of them have dark story lines or adult themes. The Enchanted Forest will give the community a family friendly ballet. With the production premiering right before Thanksgiving, it is a nice alternative to the Nutcracker for families who want something different for the holidays. Another thing that makes The Enchanted Forest unique is it's use of traditional Irish dance to provide contrast between the village and the forest.
We currently have over 50 dancers cast in the production, and are looking to cast at least 6 more Irish dancers.
Risks and challenges
One possible challenge will be building sets for the production. I have several people to help me trouble shoot in this area so I am confident that we will come up with creative ways to create sets on a small budget. The theater where I hold performances is also very supportive, and allows me to come in to try out different set pieces in advance so that I know what will and won't work.
In the event that a main dancer would become ill or injured, all roles will have understudies who are in other parts of the production. This will make it easy to substitute dancers if necessary, even if it is in the middle of the performance.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
