The Pasadena Musical Theatre Program is doing something never before done in our community: taking a successful public school program that has been canceled due to budget cuts, and restarting it as an independent not-for-profit organization. As we do that, we're working to maintain the unique blend of educational excellence and professional input/experience that has been a hallmark of the Pasadena Musical Theatre Program since its inception 17 years ago.
This year, $2,500 is needed to close the gap between that which has already been raised through tuition, sponsorships, and fundraisers, to bring about two wonderful productions, performed for the first time at the Carrie Hamilton Theatre at the Pasadena Playhouse. This is an incredible opportunity for the students, but requires more money than in past years.
The money will help PMTP to
- pay for licensing the "Honk! Jr." musical -- our first-ever licensed show
- pay for the rental of the Carrie Hamilton Theatre at the Pasadena Playhouse -- a wonderful 99-seat performance space that is well-known by the Los Angeles theater community
- pay for sets, costumes, and props
- pay for personnel to train in singing, dance, acting, and stagecraft
Something truly unique about the Pasadena Musical Theatre program: kids have always participated in PMTP regardless of their financial situation. Because of that, we draw talent from three wonderful communities — Altadena, Sierra Madre, and Pasadena.
Performances entertain thousands of audience members throughout the San Gabriel Valley every year, and for some the shows are free of charge through our community outreach programs.
