Our team is creating an experimental music video for SOUR's new song "Life is Music".
The song 'Life is Music' sings about the circle of life, and how music is its rhythm maker. We took this concept, and came up with an idea to use the spinning CD disc as a Phenakistoscope. We will create the entire animated music video on approximately 300 spinning CDs. After the video has been launched, these CDs used in the video will be sold as numbered limited edition art discs, so the fans can purchase a piece of the music video.
Previous videos we created for SOUR, 'Hibi no Neiro' and 'Mirror' has been recognized in many international award ceremonies including Annecy Animation Film Festival, UK MVA, One Show Design, Cannes Lions, and has more than 4 million views in total on YouTube. For both videos with had $0 production budget to start with and yet, Kickstarter supported us to fund the projects. Once again, we would like to ask for your help!
Risks and challenges
There aren't many critical risks in the project, but the challenge is in capturing the whole phenakistoscope animation in camera. We have done camera tests and are confident to make it work, however, getting the animations at the right position takes time and effort. With our current budget we must finish this in a one day shoot. In order to avoid not being able to film all the needed sequences, we plan to reduce the amount of takes, by renting a 4K camera so that we can take wide shots and zoom in rather than doing an extra set up. Also we are looking into our friend's studio to film any outstanding cuts.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
