In 2018, Between Us Productions featured my play "Ice Front" in their Take ten Festival. The two directors, both women, are professional, capable and kind. They're a pleasure to work with. As with many short play festivals, Take Ten offers a venue, technical capacity, in terms of lighting and sound, as well as stage management, marketing and infrastructure, and invites playwrights to self-produce their work. Although "Partner Of —" has gained quite a bit of traction, Take Ten offers a chance to bring the piece to a new community, New York City, and to invite local industry professionals, such as creative teams from local theatres, to attend. It's the increased exposure, as well as the chance to see what my longtime director, Leslie Weishaar, will do with the piece, that makes this such a compelling opportunity.
In the past year, I've dipped into my own pocket to self-produce in New York City several times, and each experience has had its career-building rewards. Here's what the budget for this project looks like:
$150.00 Fee to Between Us Productions
$375.00 ($25./hour X 15 hours for bargain rehearsal space, at Shetler Studios.
$75.00 for props and costumes (that can't be found or borrowed.)
$200.00 for honorariums, to offset transportation costs for three actors and the director
GRAND TOTAL: $800.00
Risks and challenges
The Jewel Box theatre is an intimate space, where Between Us Productions focuses year-round on new work. I'm proud to have been selected from a crowded field, two years in a row: http://betweenusproductions.wixsite.com/betweenusprodLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
