The Palo Alto Philharmonic needs outside funds to complete the commissioning of a new symphony by its Composer-in-Residence Lee Actor

Commissioning new music is an important part of a modern orchestra's mission. The Palo Alto Philharmonic, a non-profit, volunteer-run community orchestra has been commissioning pieces for over ten years now, and is looking for contributors to complete the funding of our commission of Symphony No. 3 by composer Lee Actor.

Lee's melodic works with modern harmonies always draw a crowd to our concerts, but commissioning a major work such as a symphony is still a stretch for a community orchestra, even with the 10% to 20% bump in box office revenues for concerts featuring his works. We are about $1600 shy of the commission fee.

Besides our sincerest gratitude, We offer signed CDs, signed scores, concert tickets, and even permanent recognition in the published score as rewards for this campaign. Please look over the rewards on the right and choose your funding level.

The three CDs available as rewards, all signed by the composer, are:

CD #1 Lee Actor: Music for Orchestra
   1. Prelude to a Tragedy
   2. Redwood Fanfare
   3. Symphony No. 1: I. Prelude
   4. Symphony No. 1: II. Lament
   5. Symphony No. 1: III. Finale
   6. Variations and Fugue

CD #2 Lee Actor: Violin Concerto
   1. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra: I. Proclamation
   2. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra: II. Meditation
   3. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra: III. Exhilaration
   4. Symphony No. 2: I. Andante maestoso
   5. Symphony No. 2: II. Adagio molto
   6. Symphony No. 2: III. Allegro molto vivace
   7. Concerto for Timpani and Orchestra

CD #3 Lee Actor: Saxophone Concerto
   1. Alto Saxophone Concerto: I. Andante appassionato
   2. Alto Saxophone Concerto: II. Adagio
   3. Alto Saxophone Concerto: III. Allegro molto
   4. Dance Rhapsody
   5. Horn Concerto: I. Allegro moderato
   6. Horn Concerto: II. Adagio
   7. Horn Concerto: III. Allegro vivo
   8. Opening Remarks
   9. Celebration Overture

Funds raised in excess of our goal will be applied to the production costs for the concert (theater rental, rehearsal space rental, insurance, etc.), a bonus to Lee, and if we net over $5000, help to the PA Philharmonic's general fund to continue to bring quality music with affordable tickets throughout the concert season.

Thank you!
