2 bands! 2 CDs worth of music! Here's the plan:
1) Get generous lovers of original music, fans of songs that haven't been massaged by boardroom decision-making processes and marketing surveys, to subscribe to one or both finished products.
CDs, professionally recorded and engineered and mastered and in a fancy case, one by each band, each one from 13 to 15 songs, with extra songs available via digital download.
2) Once the funding goal is reached, we will spend 2 months recording the CDs, then another month mastering, then a final month getting them printed and ready for distribution. We will keep a blog (and email update) detailing the process and the money spent, so you can see how it works.
***Wait, why so cheap? $2,133, aside from being a strange amount to as for, doesn't seem enough to record 1 CD, let alone 2.
For several reasons: first, because we have been playing most of these songs for a while, and can bang them out without lots of retakes or overdubs. Second, we are committed to making music that sounds more raw and alive than much of the music released these days, which tends to be overproduced. Finally, we will share the fabulous recording and engineering skills of One Stone Recording for both projects, and he promised us a deal because he likes us. Essentially, recording and mixing 30 songs will cost between 1500 and 1800 dollars, and the rest of the money will be used to print the CDs, badges, t-shirts, and stickers that will go into different funding level packages. Again, we will detail all the expenditures on our blog at fubarbundy.org
***Oh yeah, what songs will you record?
We're pretty sure you don't know any of our songs, but check our the video above and also find us on YouTube, and you will hear many of the songs we will record. Once we get funding, we will post a list of songs we intend to record and ask for feedback, if anyone really wants a song we didn't include, we'll include it. Our videos are not polished, we are not particularly photogenic, and honestly, we don't care, there's enough shiny in the world to last us a while. We just want to produce some recordings that will make your ears happy they're on your head and not on, say, Toby Keith's head.
Risks and challenges
Obviously, the main risk is not getting enough cash. We are very happily under the radar, aren't so great at promotion, apparently, and play original music in an area saturated with cover bands. Juggling members in two bands could be tricky, people have lives, tragically, so unforeseen events might occur, but our timeline has enough slack built in to it that we should be able to deal with any delays. IN any case, once again, we are fond of transparency is most endeavors, and will, as mentioned earlier, keep funding partners up to date via our blog and email updates, like good kickstarters should.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
