What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About this project

1980 Pantha MX1002 BMX
1980 Pantha MX1002 BMX

We are Bicycle Industry professionals, in manufacturing, design and build.

We are reintroducing a well known iconic bicycle New Zealand BMX brand once  introduced and owned by our family in 1978..

Shown is our first model ever produced in NZ  Pantha MX1002. We produced 80% of this model including the iconic aluminium wheels and our distinguishing rear loop tail and and flat bladed forks. 1970'/80s in NZ was a regulated economy and to purchase overseas goods and components  Import Licence was required..... very difficult to acquire. We had no alternative but to set things up and make it with local expertise and materials in NZ. Our Goverment at the time was so impressed with our initiative we were granted Import Licences .

2017 sees us expanding our bicycle range first with the introduction of the NZ famous retro  model previously known as PANTHA MX1002.pictured. This we manufactured in NZ.

BMX has matured over the ensuing years now being and elite Olympic and World Championship sport. The off shoot of this has been variations of BMX which takes in family recreation /transport. Freestyling in Parks and Bowls and competition on BMX tracks covering ages from 4 years old boys and girls to Elite through age groups to Veteran mums and dads being a strong family involvement through out the World.

Our PANTHA MX2002 New model is reliving the basic design of the orginal MX1002 designed as a Road/Park/Track bike with future colour schemes to suit both sexes.

With this introduction we have planned and have drawings already for alternative models in size and application.

On the background of BMX bike manufacturing we have also have experience in hand made road and track bikes being custom frame builders.

We also have been involved in E-Bikes since 2002 and have consulted with major Factories we have the ability to expand as our future structure allows into this area..

Our intial focus for this project is the BMX models of which we have options of distribution initially into NZ and Australia where the PANTHA brand is well known. We have been working with a factory to develop our prototypes paid for special tooling exclusive to ourselves, instilled our quality controls and have the confidence and assurance that this factory manufactures an International well known  brand and range of bikes  which has been proven by our first retro prototype completed.

Risks and challenges

Our experience in working with manufacturing and outsourcing is initially qualifying the companies we will favour with our production.

Factors like quality control and compliance are an integral requirement with a product such as bicycles.

Integrity of keeping to lead times to meet future market and current demands is essential in meeting sales targets and market objectives.

Just In Time ordering with our suppliers is essential for cash flow and affordable inventory and is a key to allowing continued innovation and to once again to become market leader.
