Ungrounded (Of course!), Chronomechanics, Crimson Society, Hero Hourly, The Adventures of Aero-Girl, Gladstone's School for World Conquerors, and Imaginary Drugs
The volume's veteran contributors helped bring you mainstream classics on a range of established titles, whose collective credits include:
The Amazing Spider-man, Batman '66, Batman: Arkham Knight, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Crimson, Deadpool Team-Up, Edison Rex, The Flash, Hourman, JLA: Year One, Lady Death, Legion of Super-Heroes, The New 52: Futures End, New Gods, Painkiller Jane, The Punisher, Simpsons Comics Presents: Bart Simpson, Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen, Superman, Total Eclipse (featuring Miracleman), World of Warcraft, and X-Men
Ungrounded: The First Revolution is the ultimate expression of all-star superhero surrealism on Kickstarter to date.
Ungrounded was originally based upon an original pitch by Patrick Gerard in 2005. Fan favorite commission artist Eryck Webb was brought onboard in 2012 to bring the original Ungrounded project to life. With the help of Kickstarter, we made the original collection happen in 2013.
Ungrounded tells the story of physicist Joseph Danner, empowered with control of electricity and magnetism by the Egyptian deity Thoth. He is joined by treasure hunter Vivian Von Valiant, flying polar bear Prince Ulysses, and an oddball cast in an off-the-wall collage of adventures. Ungrounded is a different kind of comic. Hopeful. Defiantly optimistic. A celebration of the wonderful and the weird..
Ungrounded: The First Revolution is the evolution of that mythology. It is a trade paperback collection which collects the original saga (now numbered Chapters 1-3, with a bit of extra polish and some new pages). Chapters 1-3 feature story and art by Patrick Gerard and Eryck Webb, with covers by Dennis Culver, Art Thibert, and James Ritchey III. This collection pushes forward to collect 4 new large scale adventures by a mix of new and old creators.
Chapter 4 sees veteran writer Tom Peyer's all-new Ungrounded story with art by Eryck Webb, in a story which probes the boundaries between reality and fiction as a dysfunctional team of heroes emerge into the world, taking aim at the new Golden Age of Television and such hits as Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead. Features a cover by Eryck Webb.
Chapter 5 features two short, all-new tales by Patrick Gerard and James Ritchey III. The first pits Mister Solenoid and the operatives of D.E.P.O.T. against the Flamingo Fuhrer while getting a glimpse at how Solenoid adjusts to life in a changed world. We also get a poignant glimpse at the life of the villainous Doktor Bleak. Features a cover by Eryck Webb.
Chapter 6 is an all-new tale of Vivian Von Valiant by Brian Augustyn and John Derrick West. This installment follows the butt-kicking treasure hunter as she pursues a time traveler and discovers the dark truth about a mystery at the heart of the Ungrounded world. Features a cover by Eryck Webb.
Chapter 7 is a story by Patrick Gerard which teams Mister Solenoid with soldier werewolf turned zombie vampire Major Freakshow on a journey to a to a strange and wonderful town in the pacific northwest where a psychic woman is in grave trouble, with a sideways tip of the hat to filmmaker David Lynch. Features a cover by Eryck Webb.
Finally, the book concludes with a brief epilogue that ties everything together with an epilogue by Gerard and Webb as the Ungrounded story comes full circle, completing its first revolution.

Why Kickstarter? This is a question every project must face, increasingly.
Why Kickstarter? Because I am maxing every line of credit and pumping every resource and connection I have into producing this book. I believe in this project. The funding goal for this project represents a small fraction of what I'm putting into this project, personally, because I believe in it.
Why Kickstarter? Because when I dreamed of making comic books as a child, with a sketchpad and a pencil on the floor of my grandparents' living room, what I dreamed of was not just producing a single comic book but producing whole universes with collaborators joining me in that vision. The people working with me on this project are people I respect as peers and creators whose work I have admired for years.
Why Kickstarter? Because without your help in crossing the finish line, this project can't happen.
Risks and challenges
The Ungrounded team has learned and grown from our two prior successful Kickstarters.
The book is currently in production, running on sweat and loans, and we expect to provide updates throughout the campaign for backers. By utilizing multiple writers and artists, we're able to produce much of the work for the individual chapters at the same time.
I keep my backers updated and believe in making good on my commitments. Not every creator is the best business person, obviously, but I'm finishing my M.B.A. before the end of April and I have over a decade's experience in customer service and support roles.
I take the business side of this project quite seriously, both with regard to taking care of my collaborators and taking care of my Kickstarter backers. I know how to manage a product and how to budget and I take my commitments seriously. In the event of a catastrophe, I stay in touch, I work with donors and clients, and I remain committed to the satisfaction of customers, clients, and backers.
This project is important to me, my reputation is important to me, and your pledge is a serious commitment in my eyes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
