City Of Hope is a fictional web series that takes real sex trafficking stories and recreates them. The web-series follows various stories from different vantage points.
Our first vantage point revolves around Amber, a foreign teenager, who comes to America. hoping to find a better life and find love in the city that never sleeps, New York. Unfortunately, she is misguided, and gets hoodwinked into the sex trafficking industry.
The second vantage point follows NYPD officer Sanchez, whose sister is kidnapped by the sex trafficking kingpin of the North East, Delgado. Sanchez will do anything in her power to keep her sister alive, even if it's to betray her fellow officers.
The third vantage point is that of the two FBI Agents, Rodriguez and Johnson, who risk their lives to find the sex trafficking kingpins and bring them to justice, but also rescue and save women who are caught in the trade.
The last and final vantage point is the story of the kingpin himself, Delgado. The story will follow his operations, and how disgustingly he treats women and children.
Why it's important.
Each year, it is estimated that there are 100,000 children in the sex trade in the United States alone. Some of these children are from foreign countries, persuaded to come to America, of hope of a new world, a new beginning, but then are found in a basement, a massage parlor, the streets, hoodwinked into this life. Many people see women on the streets as "prostitutes" or perverts. Most don't realize a lot of them are doing this against their own will, abused daily, sexually and mentally.
What we need.
This film has been very emotional and passionate for everyone on our team and friends who are supportive of the project, and we would like the same passion from you, and to help us achieve producing this film and the rest of the series!
The $500+ we are asking for will branch out into various parts of production.
Transportation: With sets being in different parts of NY and NJ, we will need to pay for gas, uHaul (if needed) as well as train trans.
Food: Nothing on set is as important as keeping both the crew and cast fed, awake, and properly taken care. of.
Gear: We are renting a 5D mark II and some other canon lenses, including a dolly, boom pole, pocket par lights, flags, nets, generators (for places without electricity).
Props, set dressing: To make the scenes and characters believable, we are using a lot of real props, weapons, and pushing the design of our sets.
Besides having an entertaining web-series to watch with suspense and drama, the viewer will be able to get a glimpse of what goes on in the sex industry.
Risks and challenges
Some challenges we face are the availability of the equipment. Renting a DSLR and lenses for 3+ days gets a tad expensive, plus lights, sounds, etc. Most of the crew/cast wont be able to travel without the right expenses provided.
The biggest risk of the film is permits in NYC. With new laws, it is almost impossible to shoot outside with an exceeding amount of equipment.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
