Tiny Tape Recorder is the story of a man who must confront his past after discovering a tiny tape recorder embedded in his ear. Part of a vast government conspiracy, the tiny tape recorder has been recording every single moment of his life since the moment he was born. During the course of confronting this past, DARPA agent Saul Giovanni attempts to guide him towards spiritual health and renewal through the power of the recorded tape.
WHY THIS STORY?
In the modern world, the entirety of existence is being recorded at nearly every instant in one way or another. What then is memory if we have our entire lives to experience at our fingertips? Filled with a mixture of nostalgia and regret, this film wants to push at the boundary between the past that we create in our minds and the past that we choose to forget. Is life what we choose to make it, or is it the largest of all conspiracies put into motion by forces beyond our control?
Using a mix of realism and science fiction, comedy and drama, this film will attempt to tell a story that explores the ways in which the past constantly influences the present.
HOW WILL WE PUT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO USE?
To accomplish this, we have to build a few things. We need to create fully functional tools that Saul will use to remove the tiny tape recorder and extract the tape from it. We’ll also need to create precise larger-than-life replicas of these tools to accurately display what’s happening beneath the microscope as Saul works on the device. Beyond this, we’ll have to pay for quality makeup to make sure Herman’s ear looks appropriately pained and infected, and for the production design to meld the past into the present as Herman’s reality shifts around him.
Beyond this, your contributions will help cover the basic costs of production including food, transportation, and rentals.
Any funds raised above our goal will go towards our post-production needs including effects, sound design and color correction and to provide even better on-set food for our cast and crew.
With the proper resources to execute our vision, I think this is a film that will speak to everyone who has ever wondered or dreaded what they would find if they could listen to themselves now as they were 10 years, months, or weeks ago.
I'd like to thank the Austin Film Society for their support in the form of film stock and processing. And I'd like to thank you in advance for your support and for believing in Tiny Tape Recorder.
