      @SCHWEBUNG the history of vinyl cut from digital masters proves otherwise. have a listen to recent examples - doors, eagles, pink floyd et al. none surpass the sound quality of the original analogue.

      @Colin I agree totally. To me, the entire point of this project (I've backed for the digital download) is to have as close as possible to an exact copy of what is on the original discs, rather than remastered to sound as good as possible.

      Since you have managed to get access to the master tapes, PLEASE PLEASE include the raw unmodified transfers in the download. To not do so seems like an immense wasted opportunity to provide access to such a valuable historic artefact.

      Personally, I would prefer that the recording where as close as possible to the original recording (warts and all) and not 'Remastered' to sound 'better'. Bernie is a legend at what he does and I can see the appeal in remastering a classic album using todays audio tools to sound as good as possible (and perhaps correct some problems with the original) but for this project I would prefer a more faithful to the original approach.

      Very cool. I really appreciate it that the makers of this project care so much about involving us backers in the process. Thank you!

      This is SUCH cool news! Thank you for the info. Good mastering makes a great thing greater, and the project is in the right hands! I agree with SCHWEBUNG, please make full res digital files available!

      @nzaudio
      A “ high-resolution digital transfers of the original Golden Record tapes” can easily capture the complete sonic and dynamic spectrum + analog character of that original, so it makes a lot of sense to make a proper digital transfer first and give this to the mastering engineer instead of the original tapes, which would have to be played back over and over again during the process of mastering. If the initial transfer is done well, you'll get a 1:1 digital copy of the tapes.

      @Ozma Records
      Since you are doing a great job with the restoration of the GR tapes it would be nice to make those new masters available at full resolution. Please don't go 44.1/16-Bit, that's for CDs * )

      @Dana, the CD and MP3s that someone (not us) is selling on Amazon represent just a small part of the Golden Record, specifically the Greetings and Sounds of Earth material that is available for free on NASA's own Web site. We are releasing the Golden Record in its entirety, remastered from the original 1977 tapes. Please compare the track list in our project description and the CD on Amazon.

      I am shocked to find this record for sale on Amazon, and yet I have not received it. I paid a LOT of money for this record, and it is for sale -- cheap-- on Amazon, even tho I haven't gotten it. This is a scam.

      This is so....awesome! Thank you for all your efforts!

      As someone who has done audio mastering, nervous fingers poised over the switches and dials straining to hear the smallest nuances of the sound, It's so great to hear that it's in such seasoned and capable hands. I have no doubt it will sound as good as it can possibly be. Truthfully, I pledged considering it more of an historical artifact than anything, but now I REALLY want to hear it.

      As a retired/now part-time videographer, I really can appreciate the role sound and music play in conveying a message. Thank you very much for using today's technology to enhance what is sure to become (already IS) a monumental human achievement in the recording industry, and for all mankind, not incidentally. The ENTIRE Voyager Team deserves everyone's heartfelt "thank you for a job well done. This project, folks, represents the VERY BEST of mankind's efforts...the exploration, discovery and KNOWLEDGE of the Universe, of which we are ALL a part. Congratulations on your efforts, and like others have stated before me, I can't wait to receive my copy and your entire featured package.

      So proud to be able to be a part of this, the amount of care and research going into this on all fronts is astounding, but being a part of this makes me happy. I followed Voyager through all my studies in school, wrote a paper about it my senior year in High School... This whole project is amazing, thank you for making this as great as it can be.

    16. SCHWEBUNG on

      Oh, I guess there's no way to order a vinyl set at this point? I couldn't do it back then… but now I'm ready.

    17. SCHWEBUNG on

      This sounds wonderful. Please make those Grundman remasters available as full resolution files, at least as an option.

      Very much looking forward
