Simply put, we’re raising money to produce and distribute a feature length film on outdoor sports empowered by women. We are seeking sufficient funding to ensure the film’s official release in the fall 2015.
What happens next is up to you.
Never underestimate the power and influence that mainstream entertainment and social media has on your daughter, her health, fitness and future.
The media shapes the dreams and aspirations of young girls and the opportunities later in life. But girls receive negative or inconsistent messages from sports television. Messages that are both subliminal had highly-persuasive:
- Sports are portrayed as unfeminine;
- Magazines and commercials advertise the soft skinny Barbie look, sold ridiculous non-functional sports fashions while promoting a love-hate relationship with food; and
- Films depict women as the weaker sex or are infantilized.
No wonder teenage girls experience a crisis of confidence, hold a negative body image and lack self-esteem or experience performance anxiety. There is often a social stigma associated with sports, health and fitness. And there is a lack of positive female role models.
But we are going to change all that.
This project needs your help because:
- 83% of girls will quit sport all physical activity by the age of seventeen.
- By the age of 6, girls will start to underestimate their abilities in both sport, and later in their professional lives.
- Female athletes receive 0.5% of the sponsorship and prize money.
- Male dominated pro-sport makes up 98% of all TV sports coverage while the most widely practiced sports, your sport, receives little to no exposure.
- In 2015, young girls are still not allowed to play some sports.
- The average Olympic medal is won at 33 years old, whereas most athletes retire after high school.
- Unhealthy lifestyle and poor fitness is the single highest cost to the healthcare system and #1 cause of death. And it is preventable.
Your support will:
- Ensure that the film will be will be completed and released this fall
- Allow us to shoot an extra scene with young female athletes (8-18) with www.fastandfemale.com to directly connect with young women everywhere.
- Set a higher standard for cinematography and media coverage of sports empowered by women by releasing in IMAX.
- Establish positive body image and build self-confidence.
- Create and deliver positive strategic messaging to counter mainstream media coverage, social influence and pop culture. We will deliver demonstrable results, resonance and impressions.
- Run a targeted campaign to distribute the film to the widest audience, in theatres, television and over social media.
- Show extraordinary role models that inspire girls to stay in sport-for-life and pursue professional success.
- Facilitate programs for women and girls.
- Provide educational materials and collateral free to schools.
- You can use this film to create opportunities for yourself in outdoor sport!

The film is a fusion of stunning cinematography, athleticism, fast-paced action, organic textures, exquisite natural beauty, panache, talent and natural magic, synchronized to powerful contemporary soundtracks by female artists.
“At the still point, there the dance is.”—T. S. Eliot
The striking visual narrative is enhanced by poignant interviews from inspirational role models in sport, professional and personal lives; from the mavericks of the 1920’s to the Olympians of today.
Seventy-seven elite athletes in twenty-seven outdoor sports, over four seasons. Featuring the talent of 2 Olympic, 3 World Gold Medalists 12 National Champions and 21 National team athletes.
“The story will make you laugh, cry and take your breath away.”
The film captures the essence of sports such as: triathlon, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, adventure racing, mountain biking, trail running, track, fat bike, parkour, rowing, obstacle racing, life-saving, white-water paddling, kayaking, climbing, canoeing, dance, figure-skating, roller-skiing, cycling, biathlon, aerobatic pilot, wing-walker, F1 race car driver etc.
In the interest of preserving artistic independence, the entire production project is entirely self-funded and crowd-sourced. The production has been undertaken for purely philanthropic reasons. Specifically, our objective is to use our studio and expertise to nourish, develop, enhance and promote positive female role models within pop culture, healthy outdoor lifestyles, natural fitness and the environment.
BEHIND THE SCENES
O2films experiments with contracting styles of cinéma vérité and escapism to develop tension, stylized rhythm, and inertia. We are amongst a few Steadicam operators on earth that can maintain contact with elite endurance-athletes at speed. Thus, placing the camera in the same hands as those personally engaged in the experience. The in-action tracking cinematography makes clear the distinction between involvement and commitment for the filmmaking.
We also differentiate ourselves by using the same professional digital cinema cameras as major motion pictures (RED Epic Dragon); shooting at 6K Digital IMAX (65mm) resolution for the highest cinematic quality. We also deploy hand-held lightweight cameras like the Black Magic Cinema Camera and drones to get deep into or above the action. Most of you will watch the film on the web or in theatres in 1080p HD.
Experiencing the film in 4k Ultra High Definition and fidelity is as if you are looking through a window into a magical world more real than your own.
Fun Fact: To get this shot we used:
- Red Dragon Camera [120fps, 1/500, f2.4. ISO800) $76,620
- Canon Cinema 24mm Prime Lens $6,256
- Movi FreeFly Stabilization system $10,597
Oxygen was shot in high-speed 120-240fps ultra high definition format. The movie integrates High Dynamic Range Imagery (HDRI), macro time-lapse photography, astrophotography, and sophisticated motion-control stabilization systems (Movi Freefly Systems).

Our demonstrable commitment We are passionate about this project It has been a labor of love for seventy-seven athletes, the studio, production crew, artists and musicians who dedicated and invested thousands of hours and over $250,000 of sweat equity in the past 2 years; braving heat, mud, rain, -30C snowstorms and shedding a little bit of blood, because we all believe so strongly in the project. And we are so very close to making this a reality. Be part of the experience
There are hard costs associated with a project of this magnitude that cannot be borne on the efforts of volunteers and good will alone. (music licensing, transcoding hardware, printing, theatre rental etc)
You can support the production, marketing and distribution of the film directly, ensuring the project’s success, promoting healthy outdoor athletic lifestyle and empowering young women everywhere.
The funds will go directly into final film production, distribution and a sophisticated marketing campaign consisting of print, media, advertising, theatrical showings, networking, magazine articles, women’s sports clinics, and special presentations.
How big and how far this goes is now up to you.
Risks and challenges
Scheduling elite athletes for film shoots between races is always challenging. Scenes involving multiple athletes even more so. The shot list, script and film sequences are all crafted around races. We have been making sports films for three decades now with the best in the World, and have depth in talent to work with.
This is an outdoor sports film, which means weather. Mother earth will offer sun one day, rain and snowstorms the next. Fall colours is a two week window. All the scenes where planned out for a variety of weather conditions. The equipment and battle-hardened and our technique is street-smart. That being said we have planned and booked sufficient time for reshoots if required. Flying drones is probably the most temperamental.
Music licensing is always tricky. Finding all the owners, negotiating pricing etc. We have primary and backup sound tracks for all the scenes if something does not pan out. So we are covered.
After the project is successfully funded, and the movie is complete, getting the word out and distributing it is still significant effort. One that we are most eager to undertake.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
