About

Less than a month left to fund this project.  Please spread the word to everyone you know.

We're still not done raising the funds for this film.  Your support is very appreciated.

THE GOAL: To make a short documentary on the Shank Family's legacy of camping that will be used as a high-school social studies education tool and to be viewed online by the general population.

THE STORY: Right after WWII Harry Shank purchased a Jeep in which to travel and camp in remote areas of the United States. To make their experience comfortable and economical, they added a 1947 Ken Skill teardrop trailer. Harry was an aeronautical engineer and used his training to customize the family camping set up. They camped in areas of the United States that many people have not seen in years because of government restrictions. Some of their camp grounds are now under lake Powell and won't be camped on again. Harry passed his passion for camping, the vintage 8mm film, still photos, and family vehicles on to his son Larry who still camps in the fashion of his folks over 60 years later. Read more of their story here: http://www.film.queensu.ca/cj3b/Owners/Shank/Shank.html

Larry is also to be published in the summer edition of RV Magazine (http://www.rvmagonline.com/index.html).  It would be awesome to share some film of the family story too!

THE REASON The Shank family story starts in post WWII America and the story hasn't ended yet. This is a classic bit of American history that may be lost or forgotten to time. There is more footage, story, and photos that the public hasn't seen.
