Journey To The Overland is a Solo Tabletop Roleplaying Game where players take on the role of characters traveling throughout the Overland in order to obtain one of the Five Weapons of Power.
The King is Old and news is spreading that the evil Wizard Morcai is amassing an army atop Fire Mountain to march on King's Castle and take control of the Overland.
From every town in the Overland the calls out for a hero capable of Obtaining One of the Five Weapons of Power able to stop the Wizard Morcai. Bloodblade the ancient sword of blood forged by the ancient wizards of Overland to guard against the advent of tyrants and mad kings The Emerald Cross a holy relic, bundled together from splinters from the Cross of Christ, capable of protecting its wearer from even the most powerful spells and magics. The Bow of Light. An elven missile weapon so deadly and so accurate those who wield it are considered 'a weapon of war' capable of taking on massed troops. The Resurrection Ring, rumored to have been worn by Lazarus when he was raised from the dead, that is able to bring those that were once dead to life again and the Peaceful Palms the remnants of an ancient tree said to have been planted in the garden of Eden for the healing of nations with properties that are said to be able to pacify any enemy and cause any foe to beat his swords into plowshares.
Yet obtaining these Five Weapons of Power is not the only objective in Journey To The Overland. You can seek to overthrow King Overlord and rule and govern Overland yourself; or Become Great and Powerful and Form Your Own Kingdom; or Raise an Army and Recruit Allies To Wage War on Your Enemies; or simply explore and seek adventure throughout the Overland. Because Journey To The Overland is an 'open ended' Solo Tabletop Roleplaying game that allows players to explore and interact with the game world in almost any manner that they could in a traditional roleplaying game; except Journey To The Overland lets you do it all alone.
OR TO PUT IT ANOTHER WAY!
TAKE THE JOURNEY ALONE!
THE GAME MAP!
Journey To The Overland features a 3' x 3' full color, numbered hex map. The numbered hexes allow you to keep track of where you player character is at any point in the game so you can end play and resume at anytime you like exactly where you left off without having to leave the game map and components set up. The map also works with the game engine to guide your travels by frequently requiring you to travel to specific hex numbers to resolve an audience or encounter.
Only one miniature is required to play Journey To The Overland which represents your starting character. And while most players will choose to use their favorite RPG or miniature skirmish game figure to represent their starting character but because NPC Characters feature so prominently in JTO and because most will outlive your character we are hoping through our stretch goals to produce a small range of the some of the most prominent NPCs in the game. We will give more details on the NPCs and the miniatures should we get close to our funding goal.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT!
King Overlord is the ruling monarch of the Overland and while it may be your objective to succeed him on the throne he has no intention of stepping down anytime soon. The nice thing about having this miniature is that there are 'Events' like the Royal Hunt where King Overlord actually leaves the castle making your task of defeating him easier as it is the only way you can do it without having troops to lay siege to the castle first. Assuming you happen to be in the area where he is hunting you would have one week to intercept him and take your chance (Events last one week). This miniature will allow you to mark his location on the map during the game.
This is the prototype. It is a prototype because we are still experimenting with the resins to get the best result and are even looking at metal. But it is a proof of concept to simply show some of the groundwork we are doing.
Bonelord is one of King Overlord's Bane Knights. Bane Knights are knights who hold powerful estates in the King's name and swear to come to his aid whenever he calls or is in need. Bonelord is much more than that as he is member of the famed Order of the Men of Blood and one of the King's' closest friends. Bonelord holds Pirate's Bane and is one of the King's most trusted knights appearing in most of the Events involving the king and his knights.
King Thorond is the Dwarven King and Lord of Dwarfhaven. He is also the master of the DragonSlayers an elite outfit of Dwarves (and sometimes men) trained in the rare art of slaying dragons and stealing their hordes. DragonSlayers are trained at Dwarfhaven where they learn special attacks and gain access to special dragonslayer weapons.
NON-MINIATURE STRETCH GOALS
A lot of backers especially my fellow RPG gamers have been anxious to get to non-miniature Stretch Goals! As a result when I restructured the Stretch Goal reward tiers to be more consistent with the pace that the campaign was funding it was for the specific intent of making it to the Non-Miniature Stretch Goals!
MORE, MORE, MORE! THE ALL IN BACKERS KEEP ASKING FOR MORE AND THIS NEXT TIER OF STRETCH GOALS HAS MORE OF EVERYTHING!
THAT'S 120 NEW CARDS FOR EVERY ALL IN BACKER and a little something for all backers!!!!!
A LOOK AHEAD AT UPCOMING STRETCH GOALS!
I put together this table to give everyone a look ahead at possible upcoming Stretch Goals. None of these are locked in stone as I check the comments and messages everyday to get an idea of what backers would like going forward but this is what I have worked out on my own barring any changes by popular demand:
I will give more details on these as they come up but basically here is a brief synopsis:
Overland World Map: Some backers have surmised (correctly) that The Overland is part of a larger world. This is a map I have of the larger world which would be very useful for players wanting to make their own cards or scenarios. Right now it exist in a 1980s era fractal mapping output. If we hit this Stretch Goal I will commission an artist to render the world map in color and include a copy for every ALL IN backer.
AND FOR ALL BACKERS!
Overland Arena Cardstock: The Overland Arena is where Yetis, criminals and volunteers are made to fight for life and death at King's Castle. There is currently a Black and White pull out page and a set of rules for fighting in the Arena in the basic game. If this Stretch Goal is funded that pull out (depicting the Arena floor and its traps) will be rendered in color by artist Artur Mirosz and printed on medium weight card stock along with a color insert of the rules for fighting in the Arena included in every ALL IN backers game!
The Unknown Islands Map Set: This expansion will be on a level with The Misery Ghost Town expansion. It will include a separate color map of the The Unknown Islands that will allow players to explore the Island without using the entire 3' x 3' Overland map. But more than that it will be a more detailed map than the section shown on the regular game map. It will also include rules for 3 new skills (Trapper, Stalker, War Chief) that can only be obtained by someone who has explored the Islands. A new troop type (Natives) that can only be led by a character with the War Chief Advanced Skill. 10 exclusive Event, Encounter and Weather cards specifically pertaining to exploration on The Unknown Islands.
The Adventurers Miniature Party: After that run of Non-Miniature Stretch Goals we will return to miniatures and if this Stretch Goal is reached commission a set of miniatures based on the cover art of Journey To The Overland by Luis Romanos of the Young Adventurer, his Stalwart Companion, the female Thief and Elf Ranger! All four for every ALL IN backer!
THE BOUNTY HUNTER! When the local constables cannot catch up with a wanted criminal in The Overland the call goes out for the Bounty Hunter! With this new Advanced Skill you can join the ranks of this hardened profession traveling the length and breadth of The Overland from the warm hearths in Wooddam to the grimy docks in Zafton hunting down wanted men, women and monsters for gold and fame!
NEW TWO PLAYER VARIANT!
You were told to take the Journey alone! But this threat was too large, and the time is too short! So you have enlisted the aid of a friend. Now the two of you must embark on separate paths in the Overland to head off the impending Doom that is the Darkest Night. Trust no one! Tell no one! The enemy has spies and agents in every town and castle! But be quick, the Doom is growing and every move you make, if you do not make the right one, will bring it closer! Can you and your ally solve the puzzles, defeat the enemies sent to stop you, fool your rivals who want what you need for their own purposes and be at the right place at the right time to save The Overland!
TAKE THE JOURNEY.....TOGETHER!
ULTIMATE URBAN EXPANSION FINAL STRETCH GOAL!
Take your journey inside with this Ultimate Urban Expansion. Instead of merely landing on a town, this expansion will allow your character to actually enter one of the largest towns in The Overland, The Burroughs of Zafton. This expansion will include a new Urban hex map of the large Wharf District of Zafton and will introduce 100 new Urban Encounters that all take place inside the town. In addition, new rules variants will allow you to do more and travel further inside the town than standard rules allow.
If Unlocked this expansion will include:
- 24" x 24" Urban Map
- 100 New Encounters on an Urban Encounter Table
- 50 New Event Cards
- 50 New Assignments (Quests)
- Urban News & Information
- Urban Audience Tables w/the Mayor, the Guildmaster, the Chief Constable, the Wealthy Merchant, the Editor and the Rebel Leader)
- 20 Urban Locations To Explore
- 3 New Taverns
- 2 New Skills
- 3 New Advanced Skills

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING!
Word is getting out about this weird notion of playing a roleplaying game solo on your tabletop with miniatures and map! Check out what others have to say...
NOW ITS YOUR, SPREAD THE WORD!
Below are some banner ads prepared for any of you out there who might want to help spread the word to see this project funded and this game become a reality!
Risks and challenges
At this stage we have initial mock ups and layouts of everything we need to start printing the game ready to go. Like any project our Risks and Challenges include being able to scale up what we have already produced in prototype and being able to get into the necessary production queues to deliver on time. We have set August 2014 as a planned release as we would like to reserve the possibility of allowing orders to be picked up at GenCon for any supporters that attend the 2014 show. Pledges that include stretch goals are set for October 2014 to allow time for miniature delays (we have already obtained prototype miniatures).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
