UPDATE! As a huge THANK YOU for helping us put the Overgrowth Kickstarter over 100% so quickly, we're excited to invite all of those who back the campaign at the $100 reward level or above to join us the last weekend in June (28 or 29) for a super special grand finale photoshoot to be included in the final OVERGROWTH book! DETAILS HERE.
We're excited to see you in Portland!
FRIENDS! With your help, we've made it to 100% in only a week! THANK YOU SO MUCH! We're stunned by all of your encouragement, enthusiasm and support!
And now that we have a full three weeks left in our campaign, we'll be drumming up exciting extras, giveaways and new rewards to share with our backers over the coming days, SO STICK WITH US!
UPDATE! Thank you all for such an amazing first day! Riley and I are happy to be able to say that OVERGROWTH was chosen as a Kickstarter Staff Pick almost immediately after launch. Amazing!! Thanks so much for all of your help and support this far. Let's keep up the momentum!
HELLO FRIENDS! This is Parker Fitzgerald and Riley Messina, creators of the OVERGROWTH project. For the last two years, we've been working hard in order to create over a hundred unique and beautiful floral-themed images. Now, with your support we're absolutely thrilled to finally be able to bring this entire project to life as a set of high-quality art books!
OVERGROWTH is a two-year-old collaboration between photographer Parker Fitzgerald (Ransom Limited), & floral designer Riley Messina (Erba Studio). Created as an outlet to combine our talents, Overgrowth has developed into an earnest search for beauty expressed through humans and nature.
After having first exhibited Overgrowth in 2013 in Tokyo and Osaka, we're now working to turn the project into a set of excellently produced books, posters and postcards in order to release them as the first in Ransom Limited’s EDITIONS series.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP AND WHY WE'RE USING KICKSTARTER
Until now Overgrowth has been an entirely self-funded personal passion. As we approach the finish line though, we have reached the limits of what we can do on our own. This is where we need you to get involved! With your generous help, our goal is to raise enough to cover the cost of printing an initial run of 2500 copies of the Overgrowth book, along with 250 copies of a very special over-sized Overgrowth print collection.
So that brings us to why we're using Kickstarter. By printing Overgrowth independently and funding the project through this campaign (rather than going through a traditional publisher), we lose access to cash advances and a distribution network. But the tradeoff is that we get to maintain creative control, personally assure production quality and develop close relationships with our own supporters and stockists, which ultimately helps us keep the cost lower for you. On top of this, it enables us to deliver a final product more quickly to your door. These are all good things!
Most excitingly for us is that by helping to make Overgrowth a reality, you are also helping us create a platform through which we can partner and collaborate with other artists in the future. A win-win-win(win-win).
HOW WE'RE GOING TO USE YOUR PLEDGE
Every single penny of pledge funding raised through our campaign will go straight into production costs - paying our incredibly skilled support staff, printing, shipping, fulfillment, and exhibition costs. The more funding we receive, the more exceptional we can make the book (better paper, binding, extras, etc) and most importantly, the quicker we can get a finished copy into your hands.
OUR FIRST $10,000
Like we've said, until now Overgrowth has been an entirely self-funded project. We have invested countless hours and every spare dollar into making these books, and we're absolutely dedicated to seeing this through to the end. That's why we decided to match the first $10,000 raised by the campaign. We've already set the funds aside. All we need now is you!

ABOUT RANSOM LIMITED & EDITIONS
Ransom Limited is a photo house founded in 2013 by Parker and his brother James with the aim of creating a small, agile group of creative professionals devoted to visual excellence, the creation of uplifting work, and the pursuit of beauty. Ransom is based out of Portland, OR, USA.
EDITIONS will be the publishing arm of Ransom where we will be able to release collaborative projects semi-annually, partnering with artists and photographers who share our vision and pursuit of beauty—the goal simply being to celebrate and promote their work through printed publications, exhibition and online exposure.
OVERGROWTH will be the very first title under the EDITIONS label, but we see this as only the beginning!
OVERGROWTH AND JAPAN
During the Summer of 2013, Overgrowth came to life in Asakusa in eastern Tokyo where an impromptu portrait session with creative director Rikako Nagashima resulted in the first Overgrowth photo. Three months later, we returned to Japan with a small set of images, exhibiting at ROCKET gallery in Harajuku, and then at TRUCK in Osaka. Japan is Overgrowth's home and it's only fitting that the new series of images be first shown there.
And we've already made a lot of progress towards making that happen. The Overgrowth book is already set to make its debut at the TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR this September, and the project will exhibit elsewhere in the city early in October in what will definitely be a fitting homecoming.
What's more, we're already making plans to show Overgrowth in Australia, and of course bring the project back to the United States. It's exciting!
THE OVERGROWTH BOOK
So everything else aside, let's show you what we've been working on:
Here it is! With your generous help, this will be the heart and culmination of two years of work.
The final book will measure 9" x 12" in size, will sport a smyth sewn binding (which looks great and allows us to print across the center fold), and will include over one hundred beautiful floral-themed images printed across at least 150 pages of high-quality paper.
We plan on printing our entire Overgrowth project which means that the book will contain plenty of never-before-seen, exclusive imagery and will be the only way to own a physical copy of some of Overgrowth's most-loved photos.
We have been working very hard in order to create an incredibly well-made publication that feels as good to hold as it looks. With your support, we're confident we'll be able achieve our goal!
KICKSTARTER-EXCLUSIVE POSTCARDS AND PRINTS
We're happy to offer two sets of Overgrowth postcards during our campaign in sets of both five (5) and twenty (20), printed on a satisfyingly-heavy uncoated stock and packaged smartly. Keep them as mini-prints, send a real note to a real friend in real life, or give them away as gifts!
We are also creating a very beautiful two-sided, signed 18" x 24" high-quality Overgrowth poster offered as an exclusive Kickstarter reward. We really love how this looks and we're sure you will too!
THE OVERGROWTH PRINT COLLECTION
When Overgrowth originally launched in 2013, we created a set of 20 prints. Each image came in two sizes and were high-quality Lambda reproductions, but they were also a bit expensive, hard to store and even harder to ship safely.
This time, rather than create a series of individual prints, we're offering a very special over-sized, all-in-one print collection book of some of our very favorite Overgrowth images.
This collection book is huge. Each will measure 16" x 20", will come in a special embossed folio case and contain around 30 removable images printed on ultra-high quality archival paper. It's a fantastic way to collect gallery-quality Overgrowth prints for an incredibly reasonable price.
These print collections will be exquisite and very expensive to create. We're making them available only in an extremely limited edition of 250 hand-stamped and signed copies. Whether you decide to hang the prints or keep the book on a coffee table, it will be a truly special and eye-catching piece!
So now let's get to the good stuff.

WITH HEART, OUR MOST SINCERE THANKS
We couldn't have gotten as far as we have without the support of all lot of people - our designer, our producers, our developers and editor, our models and suppliers and assistants, our customers, our family and each other. We have a deep and abiding appreciation for each of them. But now we can't go any further without your help. We're so excited to share Overgrowth with you in print. Thanks so much for all of your support, and thanks for reading!
Overgrowth is shot in its entirety on film graciously provided by KODAK.
Risks and challenges
So much of our work is done already for Overgrowth—the last obstacle is funding! We've already produced all of our content, our designer is well underway designing final book layouts and we have already selected our printer.
Backers will be receiving their rewards before the official launch of the book, planned for mid-September during the Tokyo Artbook Fair, which is to say that the project is on a strict deadline. Final files will go to press in early August and ship a few weeks later. None of us want this to become a campaign where we have to send out months of delay notices about production difficulties, and we're confident it won't be.
All of this said, our primary challenge will be shipping - especially if things go particularly well for the campaign! As such, we're already hard at work setting up a framework to help make getting the book from the press to your door as smooth a process as possible.
At the end of the day, everyone involved in bringing Overgrowth to print are professionals with years of experience. We're really excited to have the chance to make an outstanding book for you and we have the know-how to get it done right!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
