About this project
Woo hoo! We made it to our goal! But there's still a lot of time to pledge and pre-order. We could still use a lot more support! Check out the project updates for more info as we go on.
Our goal is to Kickstart the inaugural releases of the Overdue Collection Agency, a non-profit record label. We will focus primarily on releasing special edition versions of albums: 180 gram vinyl, with gatefold covers and packed with as much bonus content we can collect. Interviews with the band, and bonus material (Possibly demos and b-sides. We're working on that prospect). In addition to that, all the profits will be donated to a charity of the band's choice. Our goal in doing this to maintain the integrity of the artist, the album and to help those in need.
I have been building the foundations of this label for about two years. My goal is to insure that each record were done right by the fans and the artists. It has always been my intention to start with one of my favorite bands of all time: Gatsbys American Dream. GAD was instrumental to my thoughts of integrity in art and music, the very foundation the record label is based upon. There was no band more perfect.
Long out of print, and never before released on vinyl, GAD and Rocketstar Recordings have graciously granted us license to press and remaster GAD's "Why We Fight" and "Ribbons and Sugar" on high-quality 180 Gram vinyl. In fact, I believe this is the band's first release on vinyl, period. It's a shame that it hasn't been done sooner and it's an honor for us to be a part of it. Gatbys American Dream has decided that profits from these re-issues will go to Water.org, a charity that helps provide self-sustaining clean water systems in third-world communities.
This page will act as a pre-order area, and we will notify backers of it's progress.
We are also offering something special in the world of record collecting; a subscription service. That is correct, a subscription to each version of a release (ie.all the different colors). If you pledge for a subscription, you get will be guaranteed each color released. For example, "Why We Fight" has three total colorways. When you subscribe, you are guaranteed those three colorways. You will have seven records left in your subscription. There will be a subscriber exclusive color. There are only a pre-determined amount of subscribers, capped at 200, each assigned an individual number. We will contact you before it expires to ensure that you never lose it unless you want to. We will also contact you before each release, in the case that you do not wish to have the release, you can postpone your subscription's use until our next release.
Only one subscription per person. If you order multiple subscriptions, this will simply extend your initial one.
There will be 3 different colorways for each release. Depending on how many pre-orders we get, these standard quantities may increase. Subscriber colors have been capped at 200.
Why We Fight
500 on clear with white splatter
300 on blue marble
200 on "camo" green and grey marbled (subscriber exclusive color)
Ribbons and Sugar
500 on clear with pink and blue splatter
300 on pink marble
200 on marble pink / blue split (subscriber exclusive color)
For the past two years, I've poured a lot of my personal funds into making this label a reality and an official non-profit. We are nearing the completion of our registration with the federal government as a non-profit. Meaning that soon, a percentage of donations and purchases will be tax deductible! While they're not just yet, we will notify donors of that development as soon as everything is finalized.
All the funds raised will be going toward the production of our first two releases. The $5,500 dollar goal is the absolute minimum. This will cover the costs for pressing the record. But not licensing fees, re-mastering, or printing of the jackets.
We have decided that in the case that we surpass these goals, additional rewards will be added. Those who have pledged and spread the word will also be rewarded with additional items. More details will be announced as we near the goal.
If your not familiar with Kickstarter, check out the FAQ. But here's some bullet points
- If we do not meet our goal, you will not be charged.
- If you want to make this release, and future releases a reality, please help us out and pledge.
- This record will not likely be pressed if the goal is not met.
- This Kickstarter will double as a pre-order page, with the various pledge rewards.
More about the band:
Starting in 2002, GAD set out to conquer hearts with angular structures and soaring melodies. Their first album came out in 2002, entitled "Why We Fight". The band caused a splash in their local scene, and slowly abroad. They quickly headed back into the studio to record their follow up in 2003, entitled "Ribbons and Sugar" (a quote from George Orwell's Animal Farm). The album thrust the band into the emo/indie spotlight, inspiring a loyal fanbase to develop quite rapidly. Despite their loyal fanbase, the band always had a tense relationship with their record labels, who often tried to pressure the band to add choruses to their songs. After two amazing subsequent albums and a substantial EP, the band went on hiatus in 2006. On September 10th, 2010 Gatsbys American Dream reunited on stage in Seattle at El Corazon to play one song. The next month, the band announced their official reunion.
