Do you ever feel guilty about what our love of fashion is doing to the planet?
That's why I'm working to create the most environmentally friendly and ethically sound denim garments possible. Using 100% cotton, pre-consumer upcycled denim, made in a closed loop third generation textile mill in Guatemala that has been running since 1956. To top it off, everything will be manufactured ethically in a studio in rural Australia.
Denim overalls for children and adults are the foundation of my business. I am pleased to offer you the opportunity to get your hands on my 3rd collection at a reduced price and before anyone else. Alongside a bunch of new & Kickstarter exclusive products. This is my way of saying a heartfelt thank you, for helping me to build up this dream business.
For the creatives and sewers, denim letter patches are custom embroidered from my own offcuts and can be used to customise just about anything.
Fancy making your very own kids overalls? Well, you're in luck because I've created a simplified version of my signature kids' overalls and made it into a sewing pattern - ready for Christmas delivery!
Fancy stitching up your own denim dreams? As an exclusive Kickstarter option, I'm offering up a limited number of 2m lengths of my sustainable 10oz denim. It comes in a generous 152cm width, meaning you will have plenty of fabric to create an adult garment, or a few children's pieces, without the stress of playing pattern Tetris.
This simple yet striking denim tote is inspired by a classic denim bag that I picked up in Paris and have subsequently been carrying around for nearly a decade. It has a simple internal pocket for keeping essentials close. Updated with bold, tumbling letters screen printed by hand with either white or black water-based inks.
For the art lovers and bold print babes, I'm collaborating with Casey Burrill (artist, teacher, mother, and all-round legend) to create an exclusive Kickstarter artwork, that will be digitally printed onto organic cotton canvas and then whipped up into the most eye-catching overalls to ever exist. There are just 25 children's pieces and 25 adults on offer - which makes them even more special!
For those who love the world of visible mending, patching, custom denim culture as much as I do, this reward could quite literally have your name on it.
Do you like the idea of having something totally unique and custom made for you, with ongoing repairs taken care of?
That's exactly what you'll get with this exclusive reward. I'm so excited to open up my studio to 5 clients (virtually or in-person if you're local) and work with you to stitch your denim dreams into a totally one-off pair of overalls. You'll have access to my denim library, assorted fabrics from vintage and modern fabric, patches from independent designers around the world, a rainbow of threads and my undivided sewing skills, attention & enthusiasm. This reward includes 5 years' worth of repairs/patching/customising services. So as your garment wears, or your tastes evolve, we can continually update and refresh your piece together.
For the past 2 years, I have been developing my signature overalls, designed to be hardwearing, versatile and above all stylish. I proudly manufactured my first season with my own two hands in East London (in my bedroom at night while my children slept...or didn't) My second range I worked with a wonderful factory in north London to help with the demand.
I've only ever used 100% cotton fabrics, my packaging has always been recyclable and I reused the smallest offcuts for various projects, but I knew I wanted to do better, I needed to for my conscience as much as the environment.
In early 2019 I moved from London to rural Australia and I have become laser-focused on doing the best I can for our incredible environment. Living amongst vineyards and canola fields in the Golden Plains Shire, collecting rainwater in massive tanks and using wood fires for the majority of our heating, it's put our use of resources into context & made me question what we do to our environment in order to live this way.
Why am I asking for help in this way?
I believe we should only put items into the world that are worthy of using our precious resources, this requires getting it right from the very first step - by investing in the most eco-friendly and responsible materials available. As a single mum to two pre-school aged children, splitting my time and finances between personal and business life means it's incredibly difficult to raise this money on my own. A wholesale fabric order is a big expense, but one that is 100% worth it. I'm incredibly excited by the opportunity to offer you this beautiful & sustainable denim fabric through my designs.
My dream is to set up an ethical workshop where I produce beautiful garments, to employ others who are equally passionate about fashion and our environment, and to have a solid business that works in harmony with my commitment to my young family.
Risks and challenges
I have been manufacturing under the Over All 1516 brand for nearly 2 years now, and sewing in one way or another for over 20 years. Since December 2018 I've been perfecting the rest of my denim plans, from sourcing the right denim mill, to liaising with hardware factories, to exploring and refining the construction process for a larger scale operation.
Once the Kickstarter is funded, I will monitor every detail of manufacturing, packaging, and shipping to make sure it meets our rigorous QA standards. I'm a Taurus so I love nothing more than getting the details sorted into a nice spreadsheet :) My background in managing production across various factories throughout Asia during my time as a product developer and garment technician at Lee Jeans, as well as Quality Assurance background from luxury retailer Reiss, means I know exactly what needs to be done to get the highest quality products, delivered on time. I will keep my customers in the loop along the way and make you aware of every update.
Although this is a big step for my brand, I feel well-equipped to handle possible challenges that may crop up along the way. I am determined and excited to work toward the projected shipping estimates and deliver a product that exceeds your expectations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
