15 hours to go...

Posted by OUYA (Creator)

We’ve made it! We’re counting down our final hours on Kickstarter, and at 10 p.m. PT tonight, we’ll be celebrating. But until then, it’s business as usual. We’ve got jobs to do, people! And the first order of business is updating you on some new developments.

---

GAME NEWS

Lots of you have asked for more details on the games that OUYA will support at launch. After all, we are a game console, it makes sense that we’d be talking games!

We’ve purposely been pretty tight lipped about our launch slate, but throughout our Kickstarter run, we’ve been having some exciting conversations behind the scenes. We’d love to fill you in on everything, but it’s just not possible. (And we’d have some legal teams coming after us!) That said, we’ve got great news from NAMCO BANDAI to share:

"NAMCO BANDAI Games and OUYA are currently in active discussions to bring some of the world's biggest gaming properties to the exciting new open gaming platform. NAMCO BANDAI brings with it a rich history of iconic gaming franchises, from classics like PAC-MAN and GALAGA, to seminal franchises like TEKKEN and Ridge Racer, and we're excited to explore how we can work with OUYA to bring some great titles to the forthcoming console."
-- Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America, Inc.

I know what I want from Namco Bandai on OUYA but we want to hear from you. Head to the Namco/OUYA Facebook page, and cast your vote for any games you’d like to see.

FOUR CONTROLLER SUPPORT

In response to a lot of the feedback we’ve received: OUYA will officially support up to four controllers. After all, what’s the point of playing in the living room if the other folks on the couch can’t join in?

IMPORTANT: If you want your four controllers to arrive in March when your console ships--and this is particularly important for those of you ordering the limited edition--please make sure to update your pledge today so that everything arrives at the same time. (For example: Those who pledged $99 for a console with one controller, can add on another $90 to receive an additional three controllers in March, rounding out the set of four. And--because we know you’ll ask--if you’ve got your heart set on the limited edition version, we’ll make sure that the controllers are matched.)

---

PLEX

In addition to this gaming news, we at OUYA want to acknowledge that there are two sides to every coin. You’re either a morning person or a night person. (But not both.) Celtics fan or Lakers fan. (Maybe neither.) Horde or Alliance. Superman or Batman. Sith or Jedi. (You see where this is going.)

So, while tons of you were super psyched yesterday to hear that we’d support XBMC, many Plex loyalists clamored for Plex support on OUYA. We think they’ll be happy to hear that OUYA will support Plex. Why not try to please everyone?

WRAP UP

Lastly, we have some final statements as we close the curtains on our last Kickstarter update.

We’re in the final stretch. Yesterday was a big day. In fact, we sold out of the $225 reward level entirely. There will be 2,500 people (Only. Ever.) with their own names carved into these puppies. Pretty cool. The personalized name etching might as well read: Big Spender. Because that’s what we’ll be thinking when we see it in your living room!

It’s worth noting that we’ve also sold out of the Developers Special reward ($699). That means 600 developers can look forward to receiving a first-run OUYA (already rooted) in December. With that comes EARLY SDK ACCESS, an extra controller, and we'll help you get started. On top of that, gamers will know you because your games will be marked with a FOUNDER EMBLEM and we’ll be helping you on the promotional side for a year.

When Kickstarter ends tonight at 10 p.m. PT, the OUYA team will be celebrating together. It’s been a lot of work, and a wild 29-day ride, but we are so grateful for the support. Our first toast will be dedicated to you, the backers who made OUYA possible.

After that, it’s back to work. We’ve got aggressive goals and we’re going to deliver. We’ll continue to push for the best content and coolest features we can bring to our little magic box. We’ll keep you apprised of the controller as it takes shape. We’ll continue to interact with you via Facebook, reddit, Twitter, Google+ and of course, our soon-to-come homepage at www.ouya.tv. And we’ll continue to listen to your requests, and answer your questions.

We cannot emphasize enough how much your actions and attitudes have influenced us. You’ve taken our dreams and made them your own, and together we will make them real.

With that, I tip my hat to you, our backers/founders/friends.

Thank you.

^this. A humble ouya bundle makes a lot of sense. I think February would be a good time, because it would drum up increased awareness just before launch and would give early adopters a game library straight off the bat. Get the nvidia folks involved.

      Kthanks.

    3. Heavyoak on

so...... humble bundle support anytime soon?

    4. Zubair on

You can only order a console on the site not just the controllers. I have the same problem. Funding closed before i could amend my pledge. Any way to include just two more controllers?

I just read this update, about how to order additional controllers, and the funding just closed. Is there any way that I can add $90 for the additional controllers anyway? Or, as the saying goes "shut up and take my money!" :-)

Super-psyched you're doing so well. There's a real need for a nice, cheap, fun console, and having it be based on FOSS makes it even more fun.

@Jessie: Some of us have a legit home theater, you know with a receiver, hooked up to their TVs, controlled by a Harmony or other universal remote. All of which use IR. Why have a separate remote just because it uses bluetooth instead of IR, when we can just add the OUYA to our existing universals.

    16. Jaidek on

      @Narong

I completely agree with you on this one, but just expect developers to charge a bit more than the $0.99 to $3 range for them. I picture the OUYA marketplace having prices anywhere from $0.99 for simple games and tablet ports to the $15 of higher end games like those on PSN and XBLA.

Simple...don't buy Namco games then. Problem solved.

Free Demo's aren't anything new. "Try the demo, then buy the game for $X ..... or X + a 80-100% markup if you happen to be in a region we don't like for some reason."
      No thanks.

    20. Toby Evers on

@Steven... you do realise that every game for Ouya has to be free, or have some sort of free component right? Talk about a knee jerk reaction..

Namco Bandai? The same fuckers behind the recent Dark souls pricegouge on steam and the whole Witcher 2 pricing fiasco last year? So basically we can expect ridiculous Australian price gouging on the Ouya because of the decision to jump into bed with these guys...thank god I checked my email at work and still have enough time to cancel my pledge.

    22. Lignum on

How about getting with Atlus and Nipponichi and companies like that? There's gotta be others out there that support the Ouya that are like me and enjoy that sort of niche-ish games. Disgaea, Shin Megami Tensei, and lots of others I can't think of. ^_^

    23. Manuel Torres on

Also, Namco Port over any PSP game you got! Android Market already has a Few PSP Port that run really smooth on my Tablet/Phone. So Bring them over =-D

Namco Needs to Brings RPGs!!!!!!! "Tales of" Series from PS2 were Great.
Please bring over at least a Couple!!!
Can't wait for my Limit ed. OUYA! And I hope we cant sideload Gameloft Games

Pretty sure like all Big Kickstarter project this one will run a couple month late. Soon you in May 2013! =-P

IR remote? What is this 1990? Lets have a bluetooth remote with a built in KB and touchpad.

    26. Shawn Setnicky (yuppicide) on

Don't forget the unit is completely hackable.. you can probably build your own USB port in somehow?

    27. Missing avatar

      KageNoOni on

To those who want an extra USB port, get a USB Hub. A second port won't make it to the Ouya as this would raise the costs. It's cheaper to stick with one, and if you get a Hub, you can use more than 2 if needed.

Without a doubt, XBMC sealed the deal for me. However, I would like to see an IR remote control to run XBMC. Moreover, an additional USB port seems to be needed as well. One USB port to play my movies via a USB hard drive (when streaming is not available or when I travel out of town), and the other USB port for a second hard drive to store my games that I plan to buy. Or, 1 USB to plug a hard drive while the 2nd USB port to connect a mouse and a keyboard. Anyway, March 2013 can't get here soon enough!

Well, there were a few updates that got a lot of people pumped. I've noticed that pledges swell with updates, so when ever some semi-big news hits the updates, pledges go up. People are particularly excited about a few things. This update shows you can now get 2 extra controllers for $60, so I think a lot of people who had already donated went and upped their pledges for more controllers. That's probably a big portion of the upward swell. Before that was XBMC, which a lot of people were clamoring for in the comments for quite a while. With it being officially supported, there was an immediate uptick in pledges. Then there's Plex which plays radio internationally, which probably created yet another uptick from people outside the US, possibly some in the US who don't like iHeartRadio. Some of the comments regarding iHeartRadio weren't very enthusiastic about that update.

Why was there such a big jump in the last 2 days? People not wanting to miss out or was there something I missed? Just curious :). Hope they give something really small extra to the 1st 1000 backers, just a token would be nice!

Bluetooth keyboard & mouse are too laggy for gaming.
It would be nice if you could make it wired friendly.
But I guess ala there is one USB, I can just plug a usb hub for keyboard & mouse.
