STRETCH GOAL — O.W.L.S. Community EP, Volume I
Thank you! We've reached our initial goal!
And now, we're excited to announce a stretch goal: If we reach $16,500 by the time the campaign ends, we will record and release a 4-5 song EP, featuring contributions from our Outside Worship Leaders & Songwriters (O.W.L.S.) community. Let's make room for even more voices to be heard. Bless you guys. Let's hit this goal.
That’s how we would define a lot of the last two years for us as Outside Worship. We never dreamed we’d be in New York together, all three of us, with our families. Never thought we’d all be living in faith by leaving our full-time jobs and launching out on our own. Never imagined that God would bring each of us through crazy life journeys, all around the world…back to each other.
And yet here we are. Totally unpredicted. Totally redemptive. Totally of God.
Honestly, it’s hard to believe it’s been two years. We have been super honored to partner in ministry with so many people, traveling and leading worship at local prayer gatherings in the NYC area and at retreats, festivals, and conferences across the country. Whether with youth and young adults or seasoned spiritual leaders, we are focused more and more on bridging generations together in Spirit-led worship, building relationships, and encouraging other artists and worship leaders along the way. We also host an online community of worship leaders and songwriters, a place of encouragement and support, idea sharing, etc, that is that seed of a larger dream for us...we want to see this grow into more!
We released our first single last year, and we have been producing music for other artists as well, but we believe now is the time to take a new step of faith. In the past two years as Outside Worship, we have written and led many songs that are now ready to be recorded and released. These songs were birthed in some deep places through our journey of faith together in community. They are songs of longing for more. Songs of pilgrimage. Songs of healing and surrender. Songs of invitation and belonging. Songs of faith. We want to share them with you.
But we need your help.
As we have prayed and discerned what the next season holds, we feel it is time to step out in a new way. Recording and releasing this full album is the first step in launching us into a new season of ministry, where we can spread our wings and pursue some big dreams.
We are asking for an increase in prayer support, and also for you to consider partnering with us financially to make this next season of ministry happen for Outside Worship. We are SO GRATEFUL for your support.
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing fundraising platform. That means that if we do not reach our target goal, no funds exchange hands! With that in mind, we have drilled down to outline all of our projected expenses for this project. The $15,000 is the minimum that we hope to reach, and includes expenses for studio time, additional studio musicians, post-production, merchandise and fees from Kickstarter. Every penny that we raise will help us make this album, purchase rewards and go towards laying the groundwork for our future dreams, which include conferences, workshops, mentoring programs, podcasts, and more. This is the first step!
Only available through this Kickstarter campaign, this acoustic version of our song Altar (Come, Thou Fount) is a reimagining of the classic hymn coupled with a new chorus that we have been singing at gatherings across the country. Marty is working on the finishing touches of the track which will be available the minute the campaign concludes. In the meantime, here is a snippet of us leading it in Chicago at the 71st Brengle Holiness Institute...
Our upcoming full-length album, released to you a month before we put it out for anyone else to hear!
THE HARD COPY
A signed, limited-edition CD of our upcoming album. Old school :)
Yeah! Represent our mission and logo out in the wide world. T-shirt printed by the inimitable David Broughton of Baron Press, and stickers featuring the O.W.L.S. logo, designed by world-class artist and super-cool guy, Erick Rodriguez.
Really excited about this one. Our very own Justin and Anna Street have created a beautiful piece of lyric artwork together. Each print is produced using premium inks on white, acid free, archival stock with a matte finish.
THE WORSHIP LEADER
Our heart is here. This package contains everything you need to be able to effectively lead each one of the songs on our upcoming album in your community gatherings. Lead sheets and chord charts in different ranges for piano, vocal and guitar (with and without capo, as necessary). Instrumental tracks for those in small churches and stems for those of you who play to tracks. We've also written a devotional based on these songs for you to lead your worship team through.
Come have a meal with Outside Worship and our families. Sit back, relax, let us cook for you in our own home, fellowship together and then, afterward, enjoy a time of prayer and worship.
We will come to your venue and do what we love to do - lead your people in a night of prayer and worship. (Does not include travel expenses.)
We will write a song for you! Tell us what you'd like the song to be about, and have as much or as little input as you would like. Choose the theme, lyrics, instrumentation, whatever you like. We'll write, record and deliver the song to you digitally, as well as a handcrafted physical gift.
O.W.L.S. Mentoring Course
O.W.L.S. stands for Outside Worship Leaders & Songwriters. We have a particular passion in these two areas, and each of us has been part of leading worship and writing songs for several decades. By pledging at this level, you (or your favorite up-and-coming worship leader) can be a part of the very first cohort of O.W.L.S.
One of the things we have found in our travels and in conversations around ministry engagements is a lack of mentoring and discipleship in these two areas. There are many worship leaders and songwriters in the Church who either don’t have access to someone to mentor them, or whose congregations don’t have resources to be able to send them to large conferences. Even the conferences themselves have some inescapable built-in shortcomings.
Don’t get us wrong! We have been to many of these conferences and participated in them—there are numerous benefits to attending, but two things that are in short supply are (1) time and (2) individualized attention.
The O.W.L.S. Mentoring Course addresses both of these shortcomings by providing a tailored and individualized approach to mentoring and discipleship of worship leaders and songwriters over the course of 4 months. After consultation with participants and (when applicable) their local leadership, together we identify both strength and growth areas; we then tailor a plan of study and activity with clearly measurable outcomes in mind. Participants meet 1-2 hours a week in 1-to-1 and 1-to-3 sessions for practical instruction, goal-setting, biblical discussion, Spirit-led prayer and team strategizing; they also have access to a community of like-minded worship leaders and songwriters for the purpose of encouragement and resource-sharing.
Areas of potential instruction and development include
- Leading from the heart — methods for deepening personal worship
- Vocal and/or instrumental coaching and instruction
- Congregational songwriting
- Feed My sheep — Loving your congregation through setlist design and planning
- Planning and leading a worship team rehearsal
- Tune tuneup — practical steps to maximize your songs’ effectiveness
- Prophetic worship — listening, obeying and stepping out in faith
- and more…
The goal of the OWLS Mentoring Program is to help participants reach their own goals as worship leaders and songwriters, whether that is to be more effective in a local setting, to make a career out of worship artistry or to write songs that inspire generations to worship. Through review of worship-leading videos and/or original songs, we offer encouragement and feedback, as well as outline a path for participants to take steps of growth and networking with others.
Risks and challenges
There's always the risk of falling behind on a project and failing to deliver on expectations, but between the three of us, we have run three successful Kickstarter campaigns and two successful GoFundMe projects, so we have a little bit of experience to go on.
We've meticulously planned out each reward level, pricing point and fulfillment date (in fact, we've given ourselves a lot more time than we think it will take, just to be on the safe side), and we will keep all of our supporters up-to-date each step of the way with regular project updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
