Hello Everyone! Scott and Christine Dente here.
Well, it HAPPENED, folks! We reached our Kickstarter goal of $35K in LESS THAN 35 days and we are officially embarking on a new Out of the Grey album! It happened in record time (thanks to YOU) – so we've come up with some new ways (and new goals) to continue to reward all of you for helping to make it a reality.
But before we dive in to the new goals, you may be wondering what additional funds be used for. Great question! Our initial $35K goal was the MINIMUM to be able to produce an Out of the Grey CD – anything additional will give us the ability to produce a higher quality recording for everyone. Beyond that? Well…how would you like to hear the new music on the radio? Or maybe have the chance to see us in concert?? Those are just a couple of the ideas we’ve been exploring – so keep spreading the word and let’s see where this can take us!
NEW GOALS (as of May 14, 2014):
- $40,000 – if we reach $40K before the end of the campaign, every backer will receive a Limited Edition Out of the Grey T-shirt designed just for this campaign
- $50,000 – if we reach $50K by May 21, we’re planning an Out of the Grey concert for ALL backers! The concert will be in Nashville featuring musicians that have played on our recordings through the years. And if you can't make it to our town? Don't worry – we'll stream the event live to you via the internet!
If you've found your way here, you probably know that Kickstarter is a great platform for teaming up with friends, fans, and supporters to make music happen and connect in the creative process. Through Kickstarter, you can pre-order our new music—and more—while helping to fund the project. However, we only have 35 days to reach our goal of $35,000 in order to fund our new recording. If we don’t meet the goal, your credit card will not be charged for any of the reward packages we're offering - but we won’t be able to make the album (or fulfill the packages) either.
SO, if you’re IN, check out our reward packages (listed both below and to the right). Then scroll down and keep reading, if you want to hear a little more!

We thought we’d do a little Q&A to tell you what we are hoping to accomplish with this Kickstarter campaign:
1. Why Kickstarter?
We’re working on a new Out of the Grey album for the first time without the financial backing of a record label. Kickstarting the project with $35,000 will allow us to make a high-quality recording and kick it on out to you all (and everyone else) ASAP. Here is what that $35,000 will cover:
- Production, engineering, studio time
- The best studio musicians
- Mixing the record
- Mastering the record
- Album artwork and photo shoot
- CD duplication/manufacturing
- Marketing & promotion
- Any unforeseen costs (that always seem show to up)
***If we exceed our $35,000 goal, we plan to invest in more promotion of the new CD—and will offer some additional perks for those who have helped us to reach that goal by supporting the new project. If that happens, we'll post more details on what those perks might entail. (So, even if we hit the goal, keep sharing this with your friends!!)***
2. What will the new album be like?
Well—we can guarantee that this new album will be like nothing you've ever heard before! Because...well...it'll be all new songs...that you've never heard before...so...
But seriously, the songs we've been writing for this project are about us, about our journey together for the last 28 years and what we've been learning and experiencing. We have both spent time over the last several years seeking to recover parts of our hearts that had gotten lost along the way, and building upon the healing and grace that God has given. As always, we're trying to write from an honest place as we work out what it looks like to follow Jesus and live well in this day and age. So that's a little of what you can expect along with our long-established Out of the Grey sound. (Here's an example of that!)
3. How can you be a part?
First, we have put together a list of unique reward packages that are only available for a limited time. Each one is named after an Out of the Grey song. Check them out and choose one that makes you happy!
Second, please help us spread the word to your friends, your family, co-fans, church members and other music-lovers–anyone you think would be interested. How can you do that? Share this page on Facebook! Tweet the link! Post a pic of the page on Instagram! Text your friends! Knock on doors! Any way you can help us get the word out is great, and will help us get to make the album and fulfill all of our reward packages. And—if we exceed the $35,000 goal, we'll be able to do more and give more perks! (Actually, don’t knock on doors, though. That could be awkward.)
BONUS QUESTION: What have you all been doing since the last Out of the Grey album?
Some of you are probably wondering what we've been up to over the last several years:
Scott – April: 2014. After our last recording in 2001, I was cryogenically frozen and stored in our cluttered garage until I was to be needed again for the purposes of an Out Of The Grey record project. But earlier this year, in an effort to defrost an organic chicken and a surplus spinach quiche, Christine accidentally left the freezer open. Destiny? Foolishness? Only time will tell. Once I finished reeling from the news about the Red Sox and the iPhone, I upgraded my hardware and got to work. On this, the new Out Of The Grey project. It is my Primary Function. I hope I can still play guitar. I can’t feel my hands.
Meanwhile, in an alternate universe, Scott continued working in music and played on hundreds of recordings for other artists and started a thriving TV Music production company with a longtime friend. He also explored life from many angles; father, friend, broken vessel, youth group leader, and handyman. Not to mention, husband of 25 years. Then he woke up.
Christine – Well, since our 6.1 record, I've recorded two solo projects that Scott produced—Becoming and Voyage (see the reward packages!)—as well as singing on some other artists' projects. In the past few years, I've also started working with voice students and doing songwriting coaching as well. But certainly the biggest job I've had has been raising and teaching our three children. Julian is 22 now and working on his own musical journey. We think he's a really good musician and songwriter (if I do say so myself). Carina is a sophomore in college studying Social Work. She really loves working with and helping children and she’s great at it. Chloe is 17 and graduating from high school this year. She’s excited to be heading to college next year to study marine biology and to get to work with the animals that she loves. So, this time in our lives really feels like a good place for Scott and me to start something new.
We can’t thank you enough for the support you’ve already shown us over all these years since we released our first CD in 1991. It is our privilege to be a part of your lives and receive the love and encouragement you’ve given us along the road. As we continue with new music and musings, we’re excited to see what this next part of the journey brings.
