A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Functional Prototype
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Appearance Prototype
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Design Prototype
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Production Prototype
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

9000 years ago, the first mask was created. Used to either disguise or reveal a personality trait, masks are present in every culture throughout History. The Sound Reactive LED Mask takes a step forward.
It integrates art and technology into a very versatile device that mesmerizes anyone who sees it.
The LED Mask transcribes any sort of music and any type of rhythm into amazing Illuminations.
Our masks are easily wearable, foldable and adjustable. As a costume or music accessory for any occasion, they are the perfect companion.
After successfully completing our first Kickstarter campaign we are proud to introduce to you our new collection.

The LED Mask is powered by phosphorus ink paired with a lithium modulator. OK, but what’s phosphorus ink? A material that consumes minimal power, is cold to the touch and emits a very captivating glow. This is the same technology that is used in watches to light the faces. The modulator converts the sound waves into programmed patterns creating pure organic light.
Sound responsive lithium modulator - Our most advanced piece of technology. The modulator is powered by a lithium-ion battery (DC5V). It is much smaller and lighter than our previous one, cutting the overall weight of the mask in half.
Adjustable straps - The straps are easy to set up and fits any head size.
Hidden cable - The cable is now completely hidden inside the strap.
Protective foam - A 1mm piece of high-density foam, protects the mask while being comfortable to wear.
Phosphorus layer - Phosphorus ink screen printed on a translucent conductor.
Printed design - High quality printed colors applied on a PWB layer.
Weight - 80 g / 2.82 oz
The LED mask is a companion that you can bring with you anytime or anywhere there’s music. It is lightweight, malleable and can easily fit in your pocket or bag. Wear it and you will become instantly part of the sensation. During your private parties, festivals or even displayed in your living room - this mask suits any setting.
The brilliant designs of our collaborators Patrick Seymour and BÜRO UFHO, supported by the valuable feedback of our community, inspired this collection. These eight new designs are the result of incredible teamwork. Now that you know everything about it, which LED Mask do you feel best describes your own style?
How to power-up your LED Mask?
Just press the button located behind your head and it’s on.
To adjust the mask’s sensitivity, turn the wheel on the side.
We improved the global structure of the mask by relocating the modulator - now located on the back of your head. The cable, connecting the modulator to the mask, is integrated and hidden within the adjustable strap giving you total comfort and mobility.
As noted by our backers, when the source of the sound was too close or too loud, the mask did not properly capture the beat of the music. We worked on the modulator and we significantly upgraded its sensitivity to better decipher the rhythm with minimal interference.

The quality of the phosphorous ink that creates the illumination was also considered. Now the light is smoother and more captivating.
We are a team of creative entrepreneurs from Montréal with a strong interest in art and music. Fascinated by masked artists, we always believed that people express themselves differently when disguised. The idea of identity vanishes and the real you rises when wearing a mask.
Two years ago you supported our vision to make our first sound reactive LED Mask. The Kickstarter community and our early adopters believed in us before anyone else even knew we existed.
After the first campaign, our team grew from three to six members, totally dedicating ourselves to the electro-luminescent technology. Now we need your help to bring our company further and create new masks with worldwide artists.
We have our working prototypes, but demand for our products is constantly growing and we need a better way to get you our masks. With your help, we can start the production of our final products and make sure everything runs as seamlessly as possible.
Your help will go directly into further improving our technology, make new collaborations and bring even more designs to life.
You can get in touch with us, using Kickstarter’s messaging service, Messenger or via email at contact@outline-montreal.com. Our team will be available around the clock to respond to any questions or feedback.

Risks and challenges
The last two years have been the source of many challenges for us but we always succeeded in the end. In fact, not only were we capable of fulfilling our first campaign, but we also created and launched our e-commerce and international shipping platform, delivering in up to 50 countries.
We are aware that our project can encounter unforeseen issues. We learned the importance of planning two steps ahead, to better find solutions and help prevent issues. This is why we built a very solid contingency plan for the production and delivery.
First, we spent over two years developing, testing and finalizing our mask designs.
Second, we have trustworthy suppliers that have shown us they are capable of delivering high-quality masks on time. We’ve also engaged in a wide range of projects and have never encountered any delays with these suppliers - they are highly skilled professionals.
We plan to start production by February 2018. Before shipping the masks we will make sure that every product goes through a quality control check. We estimate that we will proceed with the shipping by April 2018, just in time for festival season! We will keep you updated on each step as they occur.
