Elflord began in the late 70's as a series of photocopied ashcan comics featuring the adventures of Hawk and Windlbade, a pair of elven warriors. Years later, Elflord became the foundation of one of the most influential independent comic book publishers of the 1980s, Aircel Comics.
With nearly one hundred issues in a variety of related series, Elflord was one of the longest continually running indy fantasy comics ever published.
And now we are picking up where it left off. This Kickstarter will be funding the first full color issue of six in a new Elflord series. If you love epic fantasy with a lot of action, this series will be for you.
The simplest answer is to give it a new life. We want to finish the work that Barry Blair started. We also want to bring his works closer to a new audience.
With Elflord, Barry Blair imagined one of the greatest, long-lived fantasy comic series around. Hawk and Windblade's adventures through the amazing land of Pangia were some of the most creative stories ever told. The new series takes place in that same world, with the same characters as the original, and will be exploring the rich universe Barry Blair created with his original work on Elflord.
Fans of the original series will be able to immediately jump into things and share in the adventures of old friends on this first issue of Elflord.
The new Elflord takes place twenty years after the conclusion of the last Elflord series. Pangia is a place filled with danger, deceit, and summer blockbuster style action. In Elflord, we're adding the sort of over-the-top action and adventure that modern fantasy fans have been dying for.
The best part of the series is that Barry himself had a hand in its development. Back before he passed away, Barry had pushed Mat to take Elflord in an exciting new direction and was thrilled by what the writer had in mind.
The Barry Blair Library from Outland Entertainment releases the definitive collection of Barry Blair‘s comics in digital format, including 300 issues and over 6000 pages of content collected from over a half-dozen publishers that Barry worked with in the 1980’s and 90’s.
In addition to republishing the out-of-print material, Outland will also be working closely with Mat Nastos, the license owner, to revive several of Barry's most popular properties.
As a close friend and admirer of Blair's work, Mat Nastos is invested in continuing his legacy of great storytelling and amazing artwork.
All the money we generate past our initial goal will go toward more Elflord issues.
