Let's get physical

We need more support

If you already backed us on Kickstarter, there are still ways to support us: First of all, please vote for us on Steam Greenlight. Then help us to broaden our audience. Post about your experience with Outcast, submit to our channels on Twitter or Facebook and convince your friends to do so, either. It's one simple click, but every follower helps us to reach more people, who haven't already heard about us. And send us your feedback. We're absolutely interested in your thoughts and ideas!

Outcast AI

Outcast features very advanced AI for its NPC. It is based upon a system of concurrent jobs working in parallel on a single NPC. Each job has sensors, goals and resource allocation needs. For instance if a job requires a character to move to a particular location, it will ‘lock’ the legs and use that resource by asking the locomotion system to play a walk animation. Then another job could receive an information from a sensor hearing noise and require the system to orient the head to check for potential danger. If there’s real danger, another agent may take over the legs resource to play a running animation to move away from the danger source.

In this small animated Gif, you can see some fishermen quitting their routine and fleeing as Cutter is engaging a combat with soldiers.

This complex AI system provides NPC with emerging behaviors that are not hard-coded unlike those found in many games even today. In Outcast Reboot HD, the animation system will be replaced by a modern one to provide even more convincing behaviors.

New ad coming

We need more visibility. Our budget is tight but we have been preparing a new full page ad that should be running for three days starting monday on Kicktraq.com Hope that will help us getting more attention !

New update coming with actual gameplay

Yann is preparing a new video showing the game running with both the old and new dataset simultaneously. Stay tuned.

Physical rewards.

Many of you have requested preview images of the physical rewards and we are working on it, so here’s the first one, the pyro-engraved leather map:

Please note this is a mockup and not an actual photo. Some graphical elements are yet to be finalized.

Thank you all for your support, you are awesome !

the map looks really cool, can't wait to see the statuettes !

can't wait for the new gameplay video too, keep us updated on new stuff like you do :)

I'm doing whatever I can and I'm also ready to up my pledge by another $60, but I didn't expect this Kickstarter to be as slow as it currently is. Honestly I thought this would break a million after 2-3 days. However, the new footage is really promising and I hope it will soon take off. Maybe try to get more interviews out at Kickstarter-friendly sites? I'm thinking of Joystiq or Eurogamer.

@Franz, well Steam really has become the the leading PC digital marketplace for games over the past 10 years, so ofcourse this game NEEDS to get there! But ofcourse since you dont want to support that, you can always back the project enough here to get physical version if/when the game is released =)

Anyways great job guys for bringing new updates! I hope the new ad will attract more people as well, I really want this Kickstarter to succeed.

Also as for Greenlight, people need to understand that this game is so early in development phase that it just wouldnt be right to put it into "games" section just yet. When they can show some gameplay, then perhaps would be the right time, but not just yet. For sure its a shame that the projects doesnt find as many people in "Concept" category, but atleast the positive thing is that of all the concepts, its the most highlighted and gets the most attention.

Franz, they're not "bothering you". They're informing people who are interested. For instance, I'll never touch Facebook, but I don't care if they mention it because it just doesn't pertain to me. Now, if they made some part of the KS exclusive to FB (as has happened before on another project), then I'd have a problem. As it is, you just need to get over it.

I do not support any DRM dictatorship á la "Steam/UPlay/Origin" - stop bothering me with such nuisance!

I'm not supporting you for the rewards that will be given with a certain pledge, i'm supporting your team, because a quality HD remake of Outcast, which still is (IMHO) one of the best ever games in MY gaming history (and i'm with computers since "Pong") is in my very own interest ... If some people are really supporting this because of the rewards given ? (well, okay, if some of them pay a high pledge rate, then it's kind of understandable), mmh ...

I'm looking forward to that gameplay video. I hope that will convince newcomers too.

What i dont understand: Under Steam Greenlight it is NOT a Game - its just a "Concept". I had Problems to find it.... I recommend to submit it as "Game" !

Any plans on making some of the physical pledge-items available as add-ons?
Like the T-shirt or the leather map ?

    10. Christiaan on April 13, 2014

@Bauke: It's in Concepts (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/…). This kinda reinforces my point two posts down that Outcast really needs to be submitted to regular Greenlight, cause people are not going to find it in Concepts.

How do I find outcast on greenlight in the steam client? I go to the greenlite section and search for outcast, but I find nothing! :O

    12. Antonio Reavis on April 13, 2014

outcast è uno dei migliori videogiochi di tutti i tempi, ho aderito subito! il vostro è un grandissimo progetto
domanda: questa volta metterete i sottotitoli anche al filmato iniziale?

I have a few suggestions, one I already mentioned in the main comments:

I strongly recommend reconsidering not having a paypal option before the end of the campaign as in practice people who choose paypal either can't or won't use kickstarter's payment system so there's not much overlap and wouldn't cannibalize your main crowdfunding all that much. It just means more support for the project. Once a campaign is over and the hype dies down the number of new "slacker" backers tends to be very low. Paypal also recently updated its policies to be more crowdfunding friendly: http://www.polygon.com/2014/3/16/5512926/paypal-crowdfunding-campaigns-must-be-explicit-that-rewards-are-not

I would look at other campaigns to see how they've handled it but in general you'll find they held their paypal campaign simultaneously.

Secondly I would seriously consider submitting the game to main Greenlight (instead of Concepts) even though it's still early in development as main Greenlight gets significantly more traffic which means more eyes on the project. There is is a risk that with not much footage to show, people will vote No, but as soon as you have some new gameplay I would definitly go there.

This is great! Don't stop making videos. They generate a lot of hype.

As an OS X user, I'm not only hoping we reach the main goal, but also the first stretch goal so I can live this great experience once again.

What you guys need is a reference from Penny Arcade. I know Jerry Holkins loves Outcast, but he's in PAX East so the updates on that site were probably already set when they left. But he'll be back long before the funding period is over, so get him to mention you in a post.

If he posts a link about it in one of his news updates, you will get tons of support flooding in. Reach out to those guys!

The Kotaku article helped (that's how I found this), but it was posted at midnight, and got swept away in the news of the next day. You gotta get out there, I'm terrified of not reaching this goal. I've been waiting for this for 15 years, don't want to see it fizzle now!
