UPDATE: We have reached our first stretch goal and can now place a billboard in Alabama and one in Ohio! I have now created a second stretch goal to help us put up a billboard in Missouri.
Right now, American women are facing yet another surge in right-wing, reactionary efforts to control their bodies. This time, legislatures in Alabama, Missouri, Georgia, Ohio and others states have recently passed highly restrictive laws aimed at bringing a case to the now stacked conservative Supreme Court in a calculated effort to overturn Roe v Wade. We must answer with the voice of the majority!
I will be responding by placing a billboard in Birmingham, Alabama that speaks to everyone. Your body is your business... and not the business of a hyper-conservative legislature made up mostly of men. Please help support this effort by donating to this Kickstarter. If we surpass the goal, any overage (up to double) will be sent to NARAL Pro-Choice America. If we double the goal, I'll put up a billboard in Ohio.

I am a Swedish American conceptual artist whose practice includes sculpture, assemblage, and performance. My work is part of the permanent collection at the Berkeley Art Museum, the 21st C Museum, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, the Contemporary Museum in Honolulu, and the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York. In 2016 I received a Pro-Choice Leadership Award from Personal PAC, Chicago, and have shown at Jack Shainman Gallery as an original member of For Freedoms. I was born in San Francisco and currently live in Oakland, CA and am represented by the Nancy Hoffman Gallery. You can view more of my work on my website.
Building community is a key element in my work. I'm really excited to be working with Kickstarter and to have this project funded by a group of people who want to experience change in our current government.
Risks and challenges
It may take several weeks to get the billboard up depending on availability and it is possible that the artwork will not be approved. It was allowed in Saint Louis so I'm almost positive I can get it up in Birmingham. I will persist!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
