About

This November we are embarking on our most ambitious project to date with choreographer Stephen Petronio. After much planning, fundraising and nail-biting, we are eager to begin rehearsals at the Duo Multicultural Arts Center in NYC where we will be artists-in-residence. But in order to do so, we need your support! We have raised nearly $17,000 towards this exciting project; however, we must raise an additional $15,000 to bring it to fruition. The funds raised through Kickstarter will go directly towards covering the costs of dancer salaries, the choreographer's fee, the composer Son Lux’s fee, lighting by Jennifer Tipton, the theater, and costumes.

As directors of OtherShore, we have always sought out choreographers who will push us out of our comfort zone into new territory and Stephen is no exception. His relentless curiosity about the limits of what the body can do on the stage, coupled with his singular vocabulary in the dance world, is what led us to this commission.

We asked Stephen why he wanted to work with us and what he might do and he explained:
"I founded my work on the joys of multi-disciplinary collaboration because the disparity in forms and their artists bring a complexity to the table while making art. I am not searching for artists who agree with me, they serve to provoke and complicate my art-making in the most satisfying way. I have chosen to work with OtherShore precisely because they are a multi-ethnic and stylistically diverse group of performers that bring ‘difference’ to the table as a given. I hope this will challenge me to open up my own creative process in working with them as well."

As you can imagine, these words confirmed to us that the collaboration between OtherShore and Stephen would be both challenging and exciting, and will likely result in the creation of an amazing new work.

Please check back for updates as we will keep you informed of how our fundraising is going. As our rehearsals progress we will post videos to show you how our dance is unfolding. Please visit our website www.othershorenewyork.org to see more photos, videos and information.

Thank you so much for your support!
