TOP Kickstarter information.
While 'The Orion Project' is by far our most ambitious and largest game design we have - it also has minimal risks. This is because it is fully based on reception and it is a modular, seed-based experience that will grow relative to many other variables..
We are going to be launching an incredible first release with plenty to offer. We will continually evolve and grow the game in ways much larger than what we even did with our latest 'ORION: Dino Horde'.
If we meet our goal it will greatly help us hit our target release dates for both the Early Access version AND the Public Version 1.0, as well as initial post-release content.
If we exceed our goal it will help ensure that we can release major, specific post-release updates to coincide with our current post-release calendar. Depending on how much we raise it may also allow us to accelerate certain features or updates.
Otherwise these features will STILL be added, just based off of other financial supplements whether its personal investments or revenue derived from our products which may take slightly longer.
Regardless: this experience WILL be realized and we will not stop until we do so - just as we have with 'ORION: Dino Horde':
Yes! Q1 2015 and we are very much on track for hitting it.
Sort of. We say this because of what people typically associate with what an MMO is. Will this game be massive? Yes. Will this game have many real (and NPC) characters in the game at once? Yes. Will it be persistent? Yes.
Nearly in every aspect! Your characters will all have unique persistence and dynamic skill trees, all of your companions will have their own unique persistence and skill trees. Future content such as player space ships and weapon upgrades will also utilize persistence.
Yes! Starting at the $40 Reward you can get integrated into the game via a Wanted / Missing poster! At $50 you will have an in-game Achievement named after you, $60 will have you listed in the official game credits, $200 gets you in-game advertising, $400 gets you a custom companion, $500 lets you design a Weapon, $700 gets you custom armor, $1k lets you help design an entire world!
Spread the word to as many friends and loved one as possible. This is our greatest ally!
We are very fond of the Persistence System we've developed for 'ORION: Dino Horde'. In regards towards balance to to overall game and towards other players.
We are going to be using a new and improved version of this system with the major difference being that it is choice-based and dynamic skill trees per class instead of predetermined.
Yes! Each Character and Companion will feature unique Skill Trees.
We are currently confirming 15 weapons and gear. This is subject to change (growth only, not less).
PC only! There is absolutely no way I can forsee us tackling this title specifically as a multi-platform release.
Not only that but no other platform has been proven to be reliable enough to contain it as every console has a 5-7 year cycle. While the PC has been around in some form to the degree in which I can still play early mods I worked on as a kid from 15-17 years ago. It will be here in some form for the next 15-17 years just the same.
It is Single-player, Cooperative AND Multiplayer.
There may be some features or components disabled in Single-Player (as they may rely or require other online aspects) but 85-90% of the game's full-features will be playable through single-player / offline and 100% of the full experience will be obtainable.
You can participate in an incredible cooperative experience by either joining one of the Factions (massive groups) or creating a Spiral Squad (aka clan) for you and your friends to let you travel / stay together through your experience.
This is participating in the full experience. It is participating as your role (Smuggler, Space Pirate, Rebel Soldier, Carrier Marine) and interacting with as many people as possible with fewest limitations as possible.
The Early Access / Seed release game objective is to focus on the core foundation and gameplay. This will be getting players used to the game world, the universe, faction allegiance, forming squads and interacting and controlling their companion.
On top of this it is open ended!
Do you want to remain a Space Pirate and create a Spiral Squad with your friends to form a Crew to roam around the world together and doing as you please with no allegiance to either the Rebel Forces or Carrier Marines? It may be more dangerous - but it also gives you more targets!
Do you want to align with the Rebels and help fight back the oppressive Carrier Marine and TREK Industry force? Are you tired of watching your family and loved ones die around you? Then stand up with the Rebels and take back what is yours!
Do you want to align with the Carriers? Helping the massive and oppressive TREK Industries claim new lands and consume more resources while providing you with the latest weapons, gadgets and systems of defense. You can have protection, but you can't keep your morality!
Would you rather be a Lone Wolf, a Rogue? Someone that keeps to himself and only looks out for his Companion Bot. Maybe you're in it for the loot or maybe you just want your name to be known (or feared).
Do you want to wage war with your fellow Carriers at one of the Rebel outposts or air bases? Set up some plans and group together with other members of your faction to go take them out and plunder their loot!
You can determine your experience. You can determine what you do, who you help, who you attack, who you destroy and what you defend. You can go where you want, when you want and you will always have a friend thanks to your Companion Bot.
Shortly after release we will continually expand and evolve the game with new districts and regions to explore, new planets, new moons and new mega features such as base building, world events, player housing and so many more!
We are going to be updating this game massively and regularly and the only way we can guarantee this is with a focused, open platform. This is and has always been the PC. Most importantly it is static. The PC will be here, in some form, 10-15 years from now. Consoles and other pieces of hardware come and go. This is a long term project that could keep us busy anywhere from 10 to 15 years .
There are five player classes at launch including: Assault, Support, Recon, Tech and Demo.
Class-choice determines the ability for that character. Each class has their own unique weapon, item or ability that sets them apart from another and has focuses in certain aspects of the gameplay.
Assault = Grapple Hook, Support = Overshield, Recon = Cloaking, Tech = Telekinetic, Demo = Overheat.
Right now we are looking to launch with the allowance of every player being able to create 5 unique characters.
Yes! You will be able to fully customize each character including Gender, Visor Tint, Base Mesh colors, Armor Colors, ID & Decals and more!
Yes! You will be able to find, unlock and earn new pieces of Armor and switch & swap various pieces to create your own, unique identity!
Yes! You may choose Gender (among many other options) for each character / class.
There will only be one "game mode" in the sense it's the only thing you can load. This is an all-inclusive experience. You hit "Play" and you will load up and choose what you want to do and when you want to do it. So with this in mind there are unlimited "modes" as they are created in real time by both the user (you) and us with world events, A.I and other game mechanics.
Once the game is built up it will be as massive and endless as space it self. You will be able to do anything, go anywhere and be whoever you want to when you want to.
You will be able to travel to planets in search of loot, quests, adventure, you can participate in battles, dinosaur hunts, creature research, crafting & base building, real estate, social events such as drinking and gambling, participate in races, duels and archery and so much more!
Read the front page for a better listing along with artwork at just some of these main features!
Yes they are called Factions in this game. There are 5 Factions, 3 are for Players including:
01 - Space Pirate / Smuggler (default)
02 - Carrier Marines
03 - Rebel Forces
There will also be two main A.I factions including the Dinosaur / Creature Horde and TREK Industries.
You will set your 'Faction Allegiance' per Character you create. That means you can create 5 different characters each with their own unique allegiance (pirate, smuggler, carrier or rebel).
If you join a Spiral Squad the Spiral Squad allegiance will over-write your character allegiance and act as an all-encompassing umbrella. If you leave that squad you will retain your original allegiance.
These are player-created "groups" or "clans". They allow users to easily stay together during their experience and travels and if you wish you can even create your own Crew or Squad.
Yes. One of the first post-release mega-features to be added are World Events. These will begin to add indirect structure to the experience and encourage players to either travel to places or accomplish new types of objectives. These will pave the way for much larger interactions in later Phases - especially when we get to Phase 3 - Interactive Story & Lore.
The Orion Project will eventually include the "Orion Trilogy" via Phase 3.
Yes! The 3 main issues for users in regards to ORION: Dino Horde are: A.I & Animation (1), Sound (2) and User Interface (3). These are huge focus points for improvements in The Orion Project and you will notice this immediately when viewing the content we are releasing throughout this campaign.
The Orion Project is running on a custom version of Unreal Engine 3 that we have been developing for nearly a year now. Even in Pre-Alpha it is show extreme capability not only in regards to being able to contain the entirety of The Orion Project but also competitively against other pieces of software such as Unreal Engine 4 and Crytek 3.
Yes. We already have working ones in the pre-alpha.
Yes - we have been trying to add an SDK to our games since ORION: Dino Beatdown (then Dino Horde) and will likely try again for the upcoming ORION: Prelude.
But we can *confirm* that it WILL be available for The Orion Project via post-release.
These are your own personal robots. They will help you with everything and anything including revival, attacking enemies, locating loot, discovering objectives or points of awareness, providing extra shields and more. They will become your best friend as you venture out in to the Open Galaxy.
Just under 20. We featured the core 8 developers on the page. Others are a bit more shy.
No - the tone is much more serious and cinematic. You'll notice this immediately in the early footage posted so far.
We will be launching with District 1 of the first Homeworld (Orion) in the New Solar System. District 1 contains 4 regions including: Jungle, Arctic, Grasslands and Desert.
Yes new districts which each contain multiple new regions will be added shortly after release. There will be a total of six districts that make up the Homeworld of Orion which will result in around 20-25 regions.
Overall polish, initial launch, animations and anim blending, audio, music, user interface, ease-of-access.
Every single one - and we will do better on the areas we excelled at with Dino Horde initially.
So far they are the exact same as ORION: Dino Horde. The engine is very, very nice.
We will be setting this up shortly. For now please use Kickstarter.
