Close to three years after the release of my debut record, The Divine Game, I'm finally (emotionally) prepared to go for round two. It's been quite the adventure since, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share these new tunes with you all! The record will be called Morning Son. Truly a time of new beginnings, shedding the old to make room for the new. This is a collection of songs documenting this process.
And as a thank you just for stopping by, please enjoy a little taste of what's to come... The first single from 'Morning Son', Family Tree.
For those of you familiar with the monstrosity that was The Divine Game, my first tour de force production, you'll find this upcoming record to be another creature altogether. It's still sonically rich, a la Divine Game, but Morning Son is far more intimate than it's predecessor, and goes further back to my folky, personal, and even ancestral roots. Acoustic guitars. Harmonies for days. Banjo, cello, fiddle, harmonica. Songs about my dog. (Kidding!)
Because this record is in many ways scaled back, and because I was able to do all the engineering and almost all of the performances myself out in the cuts of rural PA in my good friend's cabin-turned-Birchwood-Studios (thanks Mark!!), I've been able to cut the budget down drastically compared to a few years back. And in the name of simplicity, and keeping with the stripped down theme, I'm mostly offering music-based rewards for this KS campaign.
- My goal to cover the bottom end of this project is $4,000. This will cover the first run of CD replication, as well as some of the mixing and mastering.
- My ideal stretch goal to help with some of the other musical expenses accrued along the way is $6,500. This would also help with some promotion and publicity for the record.
Any contributions to this campaign, and with it, the continued pursuit of creating heartfelt soul folk music, are hugely appreciated. As would be any help in spreading the word to anyone you think might also dig these particular sound waves. I look forward to sharing them with you, both in record form as well as sometime soon live on stage, in a city near you!
Thank you all, and much love!
