Introducing Retro Dice! A dice line featuring a unique, easy to read, custom font inspired by retro digital displays and iconic sci-fi color palettes.
Disclaimer: All photos are of sample dice only, any inconsistencies in inking or numbering will not be present in the final production sets.
When we reach our funding goal of $25,000 the following five color sets will be available to choose from. Backers will be able to choose from the following configurations for all unlocked colors:
- d20 - 20mm
- d12 - 18mm
- d4, d6, d8, d10, d% - 16mm
Every set of Retro Dice ordered will include a matching d20 sticker. If you wish to add more stickers see the add-ons section below.
Please note colors may vary slightly with each dice and may be slightly different due to screen color calibrations.
The below items are available in addition to your pledge.
If you wish to add one or more of these items to your pledge, please add the corresponding dollar value to your pledge total. You will be able to choose which particular add-ons you will like in the pledge manager.
We have planned a conservative schedule and estimate that backers should receive their rewards by February 2020. See below for a breakdown for how we determined the date.
- May 2019 - Kickstarter ends.
- May 2019 - All payment processing completed (approximately 2 weeks).
- May 2019 to June 2019 - Pledge manager surveys are sent out to be completed and returned. Surveys will be open for approximately 3 weeks. If you do not complete the survey within this time we cannot guarantee we will have the specific set or add-on you request and there is a chance you will receive a random set of dice.
- June 2019 to December 2019 - Factory receives go ahead to produce and ship the completed sets to us.
- December 2019 to January 2020 - We will personally check all dice orders for quality assurance and prepare packages for shipping. Pledge manager will re-open for address updates and shipment payments only.
- January 2020 - Shipments begin.
- February 2020 - All backers should have received their shipments.
We plan on keeping regular monthly updates throughout the process of fulfilling this Kickstarter and keeping everyone in the loop, even if there isn't too much going on for some of those months.
Shipping will be handled through Chit Chats, this will help reduce some of the shipping costs associated with shipping within and out of Canada. Chit Chats offers package tracking to almost everywhere in the world and includes insurance on all orders.
Shipping rates are based on weight and we have estimated the weight of each item in the table below to help you determine where your pledge falls within the shipping table.
We have estimated pricing, as shown below, based on current currency conversions.
Shipping will be charged after the campaign through the pledge manager. Additionally the pledge manager will open up for 2 weeks prior to shipment to allow for updated shipping addresses.
Any local custom fees are not included and may be charged upon delivery (where applicable). Please check with your local mailing service to confirm any additional customs charges.
The estimated ship date is February 2020. Our hope is that the dice will be in your hands before this date, but we want to allow for some working room in case any unforeseen delays come up.
If you live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) we will be offering a local pickup. There will be a handful of days and time brackets to try to accommodate all local backers, a poll for local backers will determine the best dates and time brackets closer to the shipping date. The local pickup will take place in the City of Vaughan area.
We will be using a pledge manager to accommodate set selection and any additional add-ons after the campaign has finished. For convenience please try to keep all pledges within the Kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
While I have a great working relationship with my manufacturer and have been on great communication terms, my biggest risk will be the production of the dice and the time required to ship them out to the backers. My manufacturer has given me a 3 month estimate for production; however, to be safe I have accounted for a 5 month window to allow for any unforeseen delays in the whole process.
Shipping will be done through an established Canadian shipping company who offer reasonable shipping rates and excellent service. Preparation for shipping will take some time to complete and I have estimated 2 months of time to prepare all orders and check all products. Orcansee Games is a one man operation and I do have a full time job and young family. Most of the fulfillment process will take place in the evenings and any vacation days I may take. I have allowed some extra time to make sure I am not rushing to complete orders and to hopefully offer a realistic expectation of when you will receive your products.
This is my first Kickstarter with a physical reward and I have taken time to research the shipping and production timelines to the best of my ability. I have also had some great support from other creators in terms of what lessons they have learned from their own Kickstarters and how some things could be done better.
In the event of any delays to production or fulfillment Orcansee Games will be honest and open on any expected date changes and how I plan to address any potential shortcomings.
