A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Our Kickstarter is OVER, but you can find out how to order Opter Pose here.
We were tired of the same old fitness trackers. We wanted something that did more and looked better, that pushed the limits of what a health tracker can be. So we created Pose to help us with the modern health challenges that hurt us every day. Poor posture, damaging UV rays, bad sleep habits, and excessive sitting are slowly killing us. Pose is our comprehensive solution.
"I don’t know about you, but it’s the kind of wearable tech I’ve been waiting for a company to create. On a recent visit to my chiropractor, he showed me a picture of my neck which looked like a telephone pole and then he showed me a picture of what my neck is supposed to look like, a soft backwards curve...'Do you hunch over your computer,' he asked? 'Duh! What kind of question is that,' I thought, 'of course I hunch over my computer, who doesn't?'" — Western Bonime. Published in Forbes, September 24, 2017.
Free your back from pain caused by awkward positions.
Save your skin from premature aging and skin cancer.
Learn better sleep through proven habits and light tracking.
Improve your mood with natural light and confident posture.
Boost your productivity by optimizing light levels.
Move around more especially at your standing desk.
Look good not just with better posture, but with a stylish accessory.
Pose is the first wearable to integrate all of these lifestyle metrics in one tiny package.
Elegant and effortless.
You don't need a Kickstarter account — just check out as a guest.
Wear Pose as a necklace using any chain of your choice (stainless steel chain included), or attach it to your shirt, bra, or tie using the included clip. It's totally up to you — Pose fits into your style.
How it works: Pose learns the posture you want when you calibrate it, then warns you by vibrating when you’ve deviated from that posture for too long.
Increase the difficulty in the app as your posture gets better. You can also set the vibration strength and the minimum time interval between vibrations. You can set quiet hours to prevent Pose from vibrating at night, and Pose won't vibrate if you're sleeping or not wearing it.
Anyone can get skin cancer. Besides, even if you have dark skin, ultraviolet (UV) exposure makes your skin age faster. Keep your skin young with Pose.
Pose measures the current UV intensity and tracks how much you've gotten each day. You'll get warnings in real-time as your exposure crosses various thresholds. Pose will even ask you if you've put on sunscreen - if you say yes, it will automatically remind you when you need to reapply.
Like any fitness tracker, Pose tracks steps, exercise, and calories.
Have you ever slept in and woken up feeling horrible? It's a little known fact that when you sleep is almost as important as how much you sleep. Sleeping at the right times is crucial for quality rest. That's why sleeping-in sometimes feels horrible — your body isn't used to sleeping that late, so the sleep isn't as effective. With sleep, consistency is key.
Pose detects when you sleep, helping you get enough hours at the right times. It also has:
Quiet vibration alarm — To wake you up intelligently at the right time for your sleep cycle without waking your partner. If vibration doesn't wake you, the Opter app will play an audio alarm.
Bedtime recommendations and reminders — To help you sleep at the most effective times for your body.
Sleep motion tracking — To let you know how restless you were and how many times you got up at night.
Light is so incredibly important to your health, we're really surprised it's not a common feature in wearables. You spend all day in front of your phone, computer, and TV. All of these devices emit blue light, a specific color of light that has a big impact on your health. Blue light affects mood, productivity, and especially sleep. That's why Pose specifically tracks blue light.
Too little blue light during the day can affect your memory and alertness, so Pose lets you know if your room is too dim to help you be optimally productive.
Too much blue light at night can throw off your entire sleep cycle. Pose notifies you when it's bright at the wrong time of day, intelligently taking your current sleep schedule into account.
Not enough features for you? Pose is always evolving and growing. In the future, we hope to update Pose to recognize specific exercises, measure breathing, guide meditation, teach yoga, and more.
"The vision of the product... is that of Chalisa Prarasri who is passionately committed to helping people live healthier lives.
It’s a little talked about fact that abuse often leads people to the kind of compassion and empathy that changes the world and Chalisa is proof of that fact. ...Once she was married she became surrounded by her husband’s family. She watched these wonderful people killing themselves by working too hard, eating terribly, and not sleeping. … Add to that, her dad lived most of his life with a severe heart arrhythmia. But by being careful about his lifestyle, he lived 18 years beyond the date his doctors had given him.
As a result of these experiences, she’s dedicated her life to helping people live better. Sit with her for a few minutes and you’ll discover she’s a wealth of information and her willingness to be frank about what she’s been through is courageous and inspiring. In minutes you'll find yourself wanting to be part of her world, one that while tech, is also deeply human."

This amount would allow us to upgrade all Poses to a mass-manufactured injection-moulded design for increased quality and unit-to-unit consistency. The design still incorporates stained bamboo, and we would be able to provide color options.
Opter Pose is intended to help users build healthy habits. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Risks and challenges
We intend to earn your trust by being transparent and responsive throughout the entire process of Kickstarter campaign, manufacture, and delivery. If an issue arises that affects our ability to deliver Poses to backers on time, we will notify backers immediately and keep them informed while we resolve the issue. Here are some possible risks of which backers should be aware.
Supply Chain/Component Sourcing
Our team has 20 years of experience setting up supply chains and sourcing components. Nevertheless, if an irreplaceable component becomes unavailable, we may face delays getting Poses to backers.
There is always the risk that consumer electronics hardware will leak unintended EM radiation. However, with our team's 60 years of combined experience designing telecommunications hardware we doubt there will be any issue, and if there is, it will be easily correctable.
There is always the risk of an unforeseen manufacturing or shipping issue that could cause delays. However, Pose has been designed for manufacturability since the beginning. Our team has 20 years of experience designing products for manufacture, auditing factories, contracting manufacture, and shipping to consumers. We are using an excellent ethical factory that we trust.
Android App Development
Presently only an iOS Opter App exists, but we have designed it using cross-platform technologies (Cordova, SQLite) that expedite the porting process to Android. We expect to have our Android app ready by the time we ship to backers, but there is a risk complications arise in the porting process. We will keep backers fully informed throughout the Android development process.
App Store Approval
Like any smartphone app, there is a chance our app will face barriers to approval. Because Pose communicates with the phone wirelessly all-day long, we need to be conscientious of respecting the phone's battery life. We believe we have done so. If a problem is revealed to us during approval, we will address it quickly. We intend to submit our app two months before we ship to give us ample time to address concerns.
