We couldn't be more excited about having reached our Kickstarter goal! The success of this Kickstarter campaign ensures the return of Open Window Theatre in the Twin Cities. But we still have more money to raise toward our larger $250k Redemption 2019 goal. To date we have raised $100k apart from Kickstarter as well, which means we are just $50k away from reaching our minimum goal to fully restore Open Window Theatre! So please continue to pledge here on Kickstarter through our deadline of March 11. Thank you!
Open Window Theatre was founded in 2011 by theater artists, Jeremy and Sarah Stanbary with a uniquely redemptive mission in the arts. In our first five seasons we became one of the fastest growing professional theaters in Minneapolis, which boasts the 3rd largest theater market per capita in the nation.
But after 5 years of hard fought success, and in the midst of a big expansion project, we unexpectedly lost our original home. After another 2.5 years of litigation following this devastating loss, our legal dispute was favorably resolved in the fall of 2018.
Now we are dedicated to a complete restoration of Open Window Theatre even bigger, better and stronger than before in a new home. The plan is for Open Window to return to full-time operation in a new and more permanent space by the fall of 2019 or early 2020.
The money raised from the Kickstarter portion of our REDEMPTION 2019 campaign will be used to find, secure, and renovate a new home for Open Window Theatre. We are actively searching for 8,000-10,000 SF of leasable space that will be suitable for a 130-150 seat flexible black box theatre with lobby area and adequate public restrooms, adequate office space, adequate backstage & dressing room space, a scene shop, costume & prop storage, and a classroom space for our youth drama program. We're also looking for a highly accessible location in the Twin Cities with plenty of off-street parking for our patrons.
Additional funds raised apart from Kickstarter will be used to hire some key FT staff, provide additional renovation funds, and give us seed money for our inaugural season of shows in our new home. For a more detailed look at our business plan, visit our website.
THE OPEN WINDOW VISION
At Open Window Theatre we view art as inherently transcendent--a window to the Divine and to the deepest realities of the human person and the world. We focus on a redemptive vision in the arts because we believe there's a crisis of hope and true beauty in today's world. Beauty is the purest glimpse we have of the Divine who is Beauty itself, leading Fyodor Dostoevsky to proclaim "beauty will save the world."
Several Open Window shows were critically acclaimed during our first 5 seasons and Jeremy’s production of the 15th century morality play, Everyman, was named one of the Top 10 Best Plays & Musicals in the Twin Cities in 2016 by the Twin Cities Arts Reader.
By reestablishing Open Window in a new and better home, we intend to set ourselves up to become one of the premier professional theaters in the Twin Cities, enabling us to impact countless more people within the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and beyond!

Risks and challenges
One timeline challenge we face after reaching our funding goal is not knowing exactly how long it will take to find the right space for our new home. There are a lot of factors in determining the best place to reestablish Open Window Theatre. And until we find the right location we also don't know exactly how long it will take to renovate or how expensive the renovation will be. But we have enough money in the bank to fund our basic operations through September 2019, which means all the money we raise for our Redemption campaign is able to get set aside and used only for the designated purposes at the appropriate time. Once we hit our funding goal this spring we'll have plenty of lead time to accomplish this project with the hope of kicking off our new season of shows in the fall of 2019!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
