We are raising funds to do the second installment of the Maiden Project on the arches and in the canyons of Moab, Utah. Here is our previous production, Maiden Light, in Boulder, CO
Our Current Goal
We at The Restorative desire to weave
our talents together to bring you a second, jaw-dropping film. We
played on the only natural arch around Boulder, and we found inspiration
in its elegant beauty. There is a place where arches abound:
Moab, Utah. With brains in our heads and play in our hearts, we journey
down South to create new, great arts. Your contribution will allow us
to: put gas in our cars to drive down and explore arches and canyons in
the Moab area; shoot for several days in these magnificent locations;
and create another beautiful video to share with you!
We are happy to announce that all of our aerial equipment needs will be fulfilled by Aerial Essentials!
If you are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor of the Maiden Project, please contact us via email.
Beginnings: An Idea from a Friend
It all started with a simple but powerful idea from our friend Piper: to play on aerial fabric off the side of a cliff.
That idea was shelved for several years till Tim Davis met Ashley Smith.
While at a shoot for Rabble Dance Collective, Tim presented the idea to Ashley, who immediately jumped on it!
Initial Play at Royal Arch
Months of planning and learning ensued. Friends were recruited with backgrounds in: aerial arts, climbing, photography, videography, multimedia arts. The Maiden in the Flatirons of Boulder was scouted as the main objective. Several days were shot at Royal Arch by Jen Friedberg, Craig Muderlak, Tim, and Jack Ellenberger with Ashley, Grace Ramsey, and Helium Valentine performing for us and to stunned hikers who happened upon us.
Going for it...
Everything felt right at Royal Arch, so our crew of five decided to go for our main ambition: The Maiden. With a 90 minute hike in carrying backpacks bulging with climbing equipment, ropes, cameras, fabric, and a day's provisions under the simmering summer sun, we would get to the Maiden and collapse. But there was no time to lose, as the shadows crawled up the Maiden, we needed to capture the sunset!
Our first try was stymied by wind, and our second by wind and rain. Defeat was a bitter pill, but getting so close to success fueled our teams' psyche engines to keep trying!
Finally, days before Craig moved to New England, our schedules aligned, and we made the schlep back up to the Maiden in the hopes that we could capture the excellent photos and videos we had strived for.
Our sweat and persistence paid off, and we were positively giddy with joy as Ashley performed at incredible heights. The sun's last rays licked the summit and Ashley floated back up the fabric. Our crew was positively electrified!
Buzzing with excitement, we packed up and parted the darkness back down the trail. As with many endeavours in life, we found both success and failure to reap the same result: desire for more!
