Open Pen Magazine is a free, short fiction magazine, now in its fifth year. To celebrate five years of risk-taking writing with something to say, publishing up-and-coming writers, providing them with a print platform for their fiction writing, The Open Pen Anthology will be a 200 page paperback with our favourite stories from the last five years, all in the same place for the first time. Better yet, we'll have a new piece of fiction from each of the ten corresponding authors.
Open Pen has always been about the stories. We wanted to create a space for writers of all descriptions to be able to publish online and in print to showcase their talent.
Now we want to celebrate that with the best stories we have published alongside new work by those authors.
How the money will be spent:
£950 will be spent of manufacture and distribution of the books.
£550 will be paid to the writers and illustrators.
Risks and challenges
The biggest obstacle we face is producing every aspect of the content at the same stage. Quality is really important to us, and we want to make sure everything at the printing stage goes accordingly.
With 5 years of experience now, we have the skills and knowledge to overcome print or editorial obstacles. We're lovers of print (perhaps that came across in our Reward packages!). Everyone involved with this project has been working with the magazine during the last five years so everyone has a vested interest in the book, including the writers, many of whom were unpublished prior to their inclusion in Open Pen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
