Announcing the Open Well-Tempered Clavier: Ba©h to Bach

Posted by Robert Douglass (Creator)

It's been over two years since we announced the Open Goldberg Variations, yet so much has happened in that time. Thank you for sticking with us as we made the first "open source" score and recording of Bach's music. We're very happy that we brought joy to many people with this project.

We haven't been standing still, though, and today, after lots of preparation, we are very happy to present to you the Open Well-Tempered Clavier: Ba©h to Bach. It is a direct continuation of the Open Goldberg project, aiming to make a new digital score and recording of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. But our team has grown, as have our abilities to deliver. In addition to Kimiko Ishizaka, MuseScore, Anne-Marie Sylvestre, Bösendorfer, and GRIN Verlag, we've got three important new additions to the team.

First, we are very proud to announce that the Well-Tempered Clavier recording will be produced and distributed by PARMA Recordings on their Navona label. That's right - a modern music label is dedicated to the creation of a public domain recording!

Second, Dave Rees of Daveconservatoire.org will be creating learning videos about the Well-Tempered Clavier based on the recording and score that we make. Here is his video announcing his support for the project:

Finally, a film producer named An'a Osipanova from Moscow is bringing her film crew to all twelve concerts that Kimiko Ishizaka is playing during the Kickstarter fundraising, as well as the recording session in March, and creating a documentary film on the topic. Setting Bach free is going to be in the movies!

Join us on this next journey! Kimiko Ishizaka will help you love this music more than you ever thought you could.

Greetings from the Open Goldberg Team
