An IDEX, Open-Source, RepRap 3D Printer kit with advance features and simple enough to be assembled by beginners.
DualBot is our iteration of RepRap 3D printers and it replicates 3D printers 50% faster than any other RepRaps before it. DualBot features an Independent Dual Extruder(IDEX) setup which has the unique ability to duplicate prints, producing two copies of the same part without increasing print time.
This significantly cuts down turnaround time during prototyping production which often requires multiple copies of the same part produced with either the same or different material.
The ability to print with two different materials on separate extruders not only allows more complex prints with the use of a soluble support material. It also reduces wasted material and significantly cuts down print time by eliminating the need for a priming/cleaning/mixing tower, which is required when using a single mixing extruder.
Separate carriages allows the inactive extruder to be parked outside of the print platform. While parked, the inactive extruder is capped, eliminating the need for cool down and heat up during extruder change. This drastically reduces the print time when compared to systems that have both extruders together on a single carriage. The independent extruder also results in a weight reduction for the X-carriage, leading to a reduction in backlash when increasing print speeds.
The goals of DualBot are; With the help from early adopters, demonstrate our functional 3D printer as our proof of concept and subsequently transitioning to a prosumer, fully assembled, production model made with laser cut frame and/or injection-molded plastics.
Crowdfunding Support Options
Our first crowdfunding campaign is for those who are comfortable with handling simple tools. If you have any experience assembling furniture kits, you will have no problems with assembling our DualBot. To those who prefer no assembly required machines, we will follow up with subsequent campaigns for our assembled production model.
For both options, we will assemble crimped or soldered connectors for plug and play, and dry-run test all electronics to ensure that we do not send out any DOA parts.
We provide a 1 year warranty for the electronics and we provide a 1 to 1 part exchange. It is of course, your responsibility to setup a RMA and send us your faulty part and we will send you the replacement.
Future Proofed 3D Printer Kit
DualBot has minimal parts that can be upgraded as it has been paired with two E3D-V6 hotends, proven and tested to handle any materials you throw at it. We also include a Cast Aluminium plate, with a 240W Silicon heater, along with a PEI surface, that means no more laying down blue tape or having sticky aerosol eventually covering other components. A light application of glue stick on the PEI surface will solve adhesion issues when printing with exotic filament or when dealing with thin walls
The build platform can be expanded to 295mm(L)x295mm(B), this would also require adding either a 24V power supply or and SSR for 110V/230V mains power, to efficiently handle the larger power draw of the corresponding larger silicon heater for efficient heating.
Maximum Z-height can be increased by swapping out the TR8*8 ACME leadscrew to other lengths, commonly available in 100mm increments, together with corresponding increments in the supporting structures.
Adding a Raspberry Pi or an alternate SoC, allows for headless printing, eliminating the need to tether a computer while printing. This upgrade will allow you to access the printer via an IP address and monitor print progress via a webcam.

DualBot is the result of our research, trial and errors that we have made in designing our printer, expanding on the various great RepRap predecessors. We incorporated tried and tested components, eg; E3D-V6 hot ends, Heated PEI build surface and Cast Aluminium for warp free, uniformly flat surface.
We have traced the footsteps of the handful of successful campaigns that have gone on to become household names in the 3D printing circle. It is our goal to join in their ranks.

We pledge to commit to the Open-Source community. After we have fulfilled all the campaign shipments, we will be releasing all the information to our GitHub page. Anyone is welcomed to hack together, in good faith, their own modification of the DualBot.
We are releasing DualBot under Open-source hardware (OSH) and GNU GPL V3, however for own protection from others claiming Dualbot as their creation, we have applied for it's patent. The patent will only be used for defense should others accuse us of IP infringement and it also protects us as we move towards our next stages; development and design of a production model.
Our Goal: 3D Printers for Next Generation.
As our first crowdfunding campaign, this will be more than just our single product. We will be using this as our jumping-off point, springboarding us into a full fledged business with the goal of proliferating 3D printers into every school and every home.
It is our goal to advance IDEX 3D printers as the next basic standard for FFF 3D printers. Help us bring 3D printing to the masses.

Risks and challenges
Based in Singapore, rated amongst the top most expensive countries, accord to the Economist Intelligence Unit, our cost analysis determined our funding goal as the minimum requirement for the successful completion of our campaign.
We have carefully studied the downfalls of those, successfully funded but failed to deliver, crowdfunding campaigns and have taken proactive steps to ensure that our project stays clear of special tooling requirements, ensure that our design can be mass produced and set our reward levels that are not at the, too good to be true price.
Our campaign funding goal accounts for the initial and subsequent MOQ of Vitamins, costs required to setup the initial print farm for Protein production and subsequently, campaign fulfillment. It also accounts for the setup costs for an industrial shop floor space and additional staff hires while ramping up to full scale production and campaign fulfillment.
We have accounted for an additional 33% lead time quote from our Vitamins suppliers, although we do not foresee any delays as our suppliers are well established local businesses themselves.
We used our total print time of our initial set of Proteins printed from our FlashForge Creator to calculate total print time. While this total time will hold true for the PYOP kits, on the DualBot print farm, we will see a 50% time reduction per kit, due to our ability for duplication and mirrored printing mode.
We set limits in quantities, accounting for the different MOQ & lead times from different suppliers, for each stage goal as our final proactive step to minimize delays due to unforeseen circumstances or delays and for a realistic campaign fulfillment date.
As there are no unique parts that require special manufacturing, custom tooling production or costly specialized hardware, we do not foresee any production issues and we are confident that we will meet the deadlines set.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
