Welcome to the vast fantasy universe of Children of Gaia—the backdrop for an epic, ongoing story told across multiple media. We're raising funds to print and distribute the second book in this realm-hopping series: War & Horses. And along the way, we're sharing a new soundtrack for the larger Children of Gaia experience.
At major funding milestones during this campaign, we'll release a new and previously unheard song from the Children of Gaia universe to backers only! These songs can accompany you as experience War & Horses...and other Children of Gaia projects!
War & Horses is a dime-store-western-style narrative written by Peter Lampasona, with illustrations by Chris Covelli and Jayel Draco and editing by Lynsey G. More than just a "weird western," War & Horses' gun-slinging adventure is the first Children of Gaia book to take place in the realm of Terra, where humans reign, technology is fast advancing, and resources are running dry.
About War & Horses:
Deep in the dustbowl of the newly formed Republic of Draven, the old aristocracy coexists with a new democratic government in an uneasy peace that’s often broken by conflict. Famine and drought wrack the once-fertile region—and violence is a spark to dry grass.
Into the midst of the chaos walks a shadowy figure: the Triggerman. The only thing certain about him is that he leaves a trail of chaos in his wake. Following that trail is writer Landon Ford, a journalist documenting the Triggerman’s exploits and digging for the truth of his identity.
War & Horses is Ford’s work: a series of dime-store books popular in both Terra and the new world of Rendaraia...and whispered by some to be ridiculous fiction. But the Triggerman is very real—and his true purpose may become the story of Ford’s life.
Children of Gaia is a vast universe stretching across multiple realms, books, comics, and forms of media. Only one soundtrack can bring them all together: the work of composer Jack Schell, AKA the Soundweaver (RIP; 1959 – 2018). We want to share his Children of Gaia soundtrack with you before it's released to the rest of the world!
At major funding milestones (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% funded), we'll release a new, unreleased track from Schell's Children of Gaia: Great Nations Soundtrack... to Kickstarter backers only! Our supporters can experience Children of Gaia books, comics, and more the way they're meant to be enjoyed: with musical accompaniment from the Soundweaver! *Rumor has it that the full Great Nations Soundtrack album may be added as a stretch goal*
Another of Schell's albums, Ageless Music, will be available as a reward to select backer tiers as well as a Backerkit add-on.
About Children of Gaia:
In Rendaraia, where nature, magic, and civilization have long coexisted, strangers of unknown origin are invading. As war rages between the Terran interlopers and Rendaraian natives, hundreds of unique cultures of wildly varying technologies, traditions, and species are ravaged by an imperial society driven by the rapacious demands of its own politically divided home—Terra. But there is more at stake than land or culture: Rendaraia and its invaders are linked far more deeply than anyone realizes.
In a lavish fantasy setting, battles are waged through soldiers and sweat; magic and steel; diplomacy and gunpowder. Children of Gaia (COG) is a complex story told through the eyes of those living through a collision of worlds. Some fight for power, others struggle to preserve a way of life, and many battle just to stay alive.
Other Works from the COG Universe:
The five Great Nations of Rendaraia have stood for centuries as strongholds of culture, magic, science, and military strength. When, one by one, the Nations mysteriously fall—each destroyed in a day, with no word or warning—the intrepid scholar Jan’Ka’Zian sets out to record a complex network of intertwined cultures on the edge of destruction. Jayel Draco’s gorgeous illustrations present a vivid picture of elaborate cityscapes and mountain vistas, vast skyfaring fleets, and fantastic flora and fauna.
The chase is on, but who is the hunter and who is the prey? When high fantasy meets familiar warfare and stropes are turned upside down, things aren’t quite how they seem in this action/adventure 8-page short comic that gives a glimpse into the larger fantasy universe of Children of Gaia. “Refuge” is designed to be included among collected works, such as the Oneshi Press Anthology #07, and the Children of Gaia multimedia universe.
"Carrying Iron" is an 8-page comic set in the seedy underbelly of Ralliesport, the capital city of the Republic of Draven in the realm of Terra. Written by Peter Lampasona, illustrated by D.L. Johnson, and lettered by Cardinal Rae, this short comic takes readers into the shadows of an underground jazz club, where dubious dealings are made along to the musical stylings of a kidnapped transport from the New World. "Carrying Iron" introduces the Triggerman, a legendary figure who haunts the pages of Children of Gaia books and the imaginations of both Terrans and Rendaraians...and now, comics readers, as well.
What You'll Get:
In the newly formed Republic of Draven, every citizen is a valuable member of Terra's first democracy. From hardworking farmers to legendary gunmen, every backer for War & Horses will be valued, and shown proper thanks.

His uncommon rhythms combined with sweet, sometimes quirky and fun and memorable melodies form original sound compositions that appeal to those from all walks of life. From an early age Jack picked up instruments and made music from them, often with a unique perspective that influenced the sounds he produced. He learned piano, clarinet, drums and percussion in his childhood. He picked up again with the advent of Atari computer and MIDI music software in the mid-1980’s when he began to compose his signature style music. Risks and challenges
Aside from one or two pieces that we'll be live-streaming during the Kickstarter campaign, the writing, art, and lettering for War & Horses are already complete! That means it won't take us long to get the book printed and sent out to backers!
The Oneshi Press team already has three successful Kickstarter campaigns under its belt, so we're hopeful that, barring unforeseen calamity, we should have these books out by the end of the year.
Of course, that depends very much on our book printer, art printer, and other providers of rewards, so it's possible that our delivery dates may be pushed back by a month or two.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
