Development Update #17 - July 2018

Hi all, just an ultra quick one to share with you the latest promo trailer for Super Indie Karts which reveals the tracks that will make up the first Ultra Cup!

As you can see, things have changed up a little.. Hills, twists, and corkscrews oh my!

This 64-like content was originally pencil-planned as a sequel kickstarter project (SIK64), but at the end of last year I made a crazy decision to cram it all together into one glorious '90s kart game that would be a celebration of more than one '90s kart game generation, rather than coming back to ask you all to contribute to a 2nd game's budget. The major upside is that you now get an even better game for your game library than originally planned.

As it's been a while since the last indie cup was added, you'd be forgiven for worrying that the project had been put on ice. But it's just been a while because getting all of the game objects to work as expected, in a world that's no longer flat, took a little more time than foreseen to reprogram. The first Ultra Update has a release date of July 19th (which is coincidentally, the day the ice age ended).

I really hope you're all happy with this move, I know it adds to the development timeline but it undoubtedly makes the game a heck of a lot stronger and this new dimension really adds a lot of space to experiment with track designs! And while things might not happen as quickly as we'd first hoped, you can trust I'll continue turning this project into the best kart game I can, and that everything that was promised (and more) will be delivered to you.

While I've been keeping my nose to the grindstone, I've still been able to reach out to more cool indie devs and I'll have some more great crossovers to show you in the next Ultra Update!

Cheers,
Paul (@1leggedseagull)

Hey hey Karters! Long time between updates.. (Genuinely sorry about that, it's been a busy year!

Hopefully the next 4-8 weeks will make the wait worth it! I'm ever closer to getting this 4th Indie Cup completed, there were a few technical issues that added to getting it all wrapped up as a couple of the new tracks have some slightly out there additions that required a fair bit of extra effort, and might be a bit of a surprise to players when they're released!

who could these three be??
who could these three be??

We also moved home a few months ago, which after living in our old place for 10 years took forever to do!

Obviously these junk shelves alone took up most of the moving time! ;D

I havent fully set my shelves back up yet as some of the contents are still wrapped up safe in a moving carton somewhere, but I'm getting there!

VR-Trax Update

I hope you all played and enjoyed the VR-Trax "ElectricDreams" update that went out in July - the Synthwave music featured, created by DreamFiend, is simply amazing!

For anyone that didn't spot it, I switched the graphical style of the old "World" tracks that were left over from the early days of Super Indie Karts (back when it was called Super World Karts), to an early '90s retro VR style. I absolutely love the switch, it wasn't an easy task, but it meant I was able to create a lot more tracks in a faster time so that you could all get a huge injection of races while waiting on a new Indie Cup!

Shoutout

A new possible crossover is currently attempting funding right here on KickStarter right now, by my friends over at Glovebox Games, which goes by the name of Beard Blade! I'm sure a lot of you will already have seen the game on twitter before (they've been sharing awesome GIFs forever!), but if you haven't, check out the preview trailer here:

How amazing is that!?! It looks and plays just like the classics it's been inspired by, from the SNES/Megadrive/GBA days - i.e. SuperSmooth

Stubble Trouble and A Fistful Of Whiskers!

I hope you'll join me in funding this beauty, I'm looking forward to playing the final game and also adding the main character Branson into a kart and building an IMPfested crossover pirate racetrack!

SpeedRun Challenge!

Glovebox also have an informal challenge running right now that Yours truly is the current World Champion speedrunner at!

All hail King Seagull! :D

So next up, look out for Dev Update #16 coming in the next 4-8 weeks, 4 new crossovers to reveal, it's gonna be super!
