We'll tell you what % of Americans did each of 350 adventures in last year - and include 1,500+ fun facts, high impact photos and room to check the box (if you have done or want to do each adventure). The book One in a Million - Life to the Fullest needs your help to fund the first press run making it possible to get this book to the masses. We also invite you to share this project with others. Until now, the author has not had a Facebook page, so yet another first, and a great way to share this project: www.facebook.com/oneinamillionbook
What have you done with your life? What do you want to do? Where do you fall in relation to others? And do you need a little nudge to get there? This book is a combination of awesome adventures (past, present or future) and sexy statistics. Yes, sexy. Statistics tell some of the best stories with the fewest words - leaving you more time to find your next adventure. In this book - we take a myriad of activities you may want to do in your lifetime, and through statistics, paint the picture of how many Americans have accomplished these feats in the last year.
We spent countless hours on research and validation, but it's fun to debate the logic and assumptions as well as to share adventures near and dear to you. We welcome your feedback!
Statistical probability is based on a combination of facts and our assumptions. Each fact is for Americans who have completed the achieved activity in 2013.
As the project came to life, we gained great insights to the great expense of not only launching a book, but getting to a break even financial position. The cost of editing, layout, cover design, research. The costs of a website, initial print run, and more. We already invested in a initial 100 book run to show you/others. Now we're seeking funding to get to a book press run that makes the economics possible to support full distribution. We reach that point only when we're able to produce 10,000 books at one time.
If we're fortunate enough to get the support we need for a book run that size, it will enable us to 'seed' books in influential circles (media, bloggers, adventure personalities) and make available to the masses online and in book stores. We're banking that seeding will spark timed interest for national distribution by July/August.
Risks and challenges
Here are a few ways we've mitigated risk:
-Completed Book: we have the content, editing and formatting complete. Yes, we did all that work up front to show people we mean business!
-Small Production Run - we spent about the cost of a small car to get early copies made. These copies are used to show you we mean business!
-Website Guys - we worked out a deal to with our website guys to defer payment until we get into a better position. They believe in the project, so obliged!
-Fulfillment - we have partnered with local students to help fulfill orders until we can afford to leave that to the professionals. We have a home printer, ordered supplies to ship and tested they all work great!
We believe our biggest obstacles are:
1. Initial Funding (to get to a press run making per book cost low enough to enable us to pay distribution their cut. Note: Amazon gets roughly 55% of sale price, so for a $10 book, they get about $5.50. Until we get our per book cost below $4.50 (well below, actually), we in the hole.
2. Distribution (Odds are stacked against an author's success. The average published author sells just 125 books. Also, with nearly 500K books in print or available on e-Book, getting into Barnes and Noble or Independant Book Stores is not a given.) We believe our best bet to make it national is to get this book in the hands of people like you and me - so they can share the word and encourage those places to carry the book! We welcome your introductions into these channels.
